Extended monkey hut
Anybody made a super long monkey hut before? Trying to combine 3 our our campmates monkey huts into one big SOB. Like 65-70 ft long (10x65). Thinking side stays every 20 feet or so to keep it secure to the ground, with opening flaps to access mid tube, trying to fit 6 tents under it. Anybody got any advice or experience?
Re: Extended monkey hut
I don’t see why it couldn’t be executed without much modification.
The question is why?
I’d think convenience of having access from both sides of the Quonset is a bonus.

Space saving. Without the gaps between the huts, we dont have to have the longitudinal stays taking up room thatd be better utilized as shaded space for tents. Also, our sizes are all weird. We've got two tents coming with a 15x10, two tents coming with a 20x10, and two with a 30x10. With a 4' lead on the longitudinal stays for each end of each hut that's 16 feet of wasted space.

The 15, 20, 30 is not my concern.
It’s the 10 foot width.
The tents in the 60 foot Quonset and getting in and out to take a piss without stomping through half the camps bedrooms.
Would you build side entry/egress?
What about privacy concerns? Snoring, moaners and screamers?
Otherwise I’d be the Tickled to see something like that.
Would be fun though find a crew and some day build a full Quonset torus. Then serve doughnuts and chicken-fried twinkies.

The surface material of the hut does absorb heat. The wind moving on the outside, and the inside, is what removes that heat. That's long length for that heated air to move before it escapes, and a long section that's downwind at a given time to not be getting fresh air with which to remove the heat in that section. Don't know how much that could matter... I sure wouldn't want to be in the middle.
If you do it, be sure to report back on how you did it and how it was, and with photos.

That's one word I regret googling during breakfast.

Video games are giving kids unrealistic expectations on how many swords they can carry.

, but don't harm the red dragon that frequents the area from time to time. He and I have an agreement.

Re: Extended monkey hut
I'll definitely be building side egress into it. The shade clothe we got to replace the 30fter is in 20 by 5 foot sections, so I might even just use 3 of them instead of 4, and leave some room at the bottom for air travel and have some of the corners secured with bungees so we can access the center. As to noise, if my campmates dont sleep with earplugs they're just silly. Were trying to tetris a lot of people into our plot, so people are gonna be cramped no matter what, and theres only two couples under the huts, and they'll be on the end caps. Mostly just worried about wind and the length of the thing. Most of it is using shade cloth, so I think there will be good ventilation. I'll probably do a test build to see if the design works, but if it doesnt we can still split them, well just have to tetris it out a bit more. I'll definitely take pictures if we make it work though!
