Theres another one, but it requires you to give them your Facebook account info, including friends list and email. And they don't even offer to use lube!

I'm giving this a nudge over to the Q&A board, since that's a better fit for discussions related to mapping and other utilities.

No, Burning Man does not publish a map of where all the camps are at. They do make a map available at playa info, and the various smartphone apps (timetoburn and iburn spring to mind) end up getting data loaded and are timed to unlock camp locations once the gate opens.

The unofficial brc map has been a solid resource in the past, as has the burnermap FB app. While FB data use has come under a lot of scrutiny lately (as it should), the creators of that free FB app are burners and do not mine userdata.

Avoid the blue flags, those are for placed camps (as far as I know)

I always enter the city as close to gate opening as possible. The past couple of years have been a sea of land grab with everything from blue flags (legit) to vast stretches of rope (ok) to garbage cans ( ) set out blocking vast swaths of "open camping" land. The open camping is practically non-existent this year. Should make for an interesting drive looking for an open spot!

Oh, Placement begs to differ this year, they say. No ropes or stuff to block land, they'll remove it. No land grabbing with WAPs. Be interesting to see if they can enforce it or not.

That is the mantra every year.

One can hope the rules that have been on the books for decades get enforced at some point.

My experience, granted not recent (2001 - 2010) has been that the biggest ego usually wins.

They also requested that if you are there early and see a land grab, tell them. They will handle it. Last year I saw a big space marked off with only a car in it. (Obvious land grab.) Had I but known.
