The Burnings kept me away until now
Dear Burners, I love all the aspects of Burning Man and have been tempted to go for years. What stops me IS the burning of the man/bonfire. Why?!? It is BAD enough that soo many machines are out there using generators, but in 2019, to set an intentional fire just for looks? 1/3 of California has burned in the last 5 years, while volcanoes worldwide are erupting. Creating ALL that carbon pollution. The light shows are fabulous there, so why not SGI burning? I am super sensitive to air pollution, plus it worries me for the planet.

Any extreme changes like that would require the name of the event to change to Statue Man.
Also, the weather and dust storms in the Black Rock Desert can almost always turn dusty, windy and aggressive. It's not for everyone.

The changes to default society required to have a Burningman in a hundred year . . . .

so you'd be ok with all the energy and carbon release for you to go, but, whatever fire happens, divided by the number of people there, is too much extra?
