In a land far away and from which we split long ago there was a Brexit.

The simplified version is that there was a vote on whether to divide the UK from the EU. The Russians intervened with disinformation and the proponents had some suspicious Russian business dealings*. By and large, older voters voted to exit and younger voters voted to stay. The leave narrowly won. Then the political gridlock set in. For over 18 months the parliament has not been able to pass the laws necessary for the details. There were various blocs, Scottish who would just as soon leave the UK and join the EU, Irish who want to arbitrage the Republic of Ireland's EU membership, the Conservative party which did not want to take the blame for reversing out of the deal lest they alienate their older voters, and the Liberal Party which has been angling to capture the prime minster position. The parliamentary system also tends to favor older members, it is almost impossible for an AOC to be elected MP there.

Here is a speech by a member of the UK Conservative Party who is speaking plainly about the failures of colleagues in he UK parliament. Of course we have the same problem with Fox News here. And since Reagan memed "the government can do no good," no American president has pointed out that the government actually does a lot of good.



*It is well known that Putin wants to sow chaos in the EU and NATO.
