2019 One Item A Day For Burning Man

This is the biggest and best ONE thing I have ever bought for burning Man. It's a 10 by 10 Tuff Shed. I have one wall of shelves up and all of my burner gear will fit on those. The other Three walls will be for other events. Labels are my friend.

Found an old hand bell while going through some junk. Attached an extra carabiner to it and threw it into a box of Burning Man stuff. Easy, fun noisemaker for my bike!

Starting the process of making 800 lanyards with laminates....like eating peanuts, mindless fidgeting with the hands. For hours at a time.....

Designed 1" buttons for our camp as gifts. Doing "Burning Man 2019" buttons as well. Yesssss, can't wait!

Learned to tie two knots that I'll need (my guy lines were soo poorly tied last year): The Adjustable Grip Hitch, and the Icicle Hitch!

Approved the artwork for my patch order for 2019! They had to modify what I sent in, because the resolution was too high for an embroidered patch, and a woven patch was 2 times as expensive.

Got all the car stuff done.

Rented a new storage unit for my gear, 'cause my old establishment is closing in a few months . . . a traumatizing prospect for any Burner, I daresay. Rented a U-haul van (never drove a cargo van before! . . . Visibility sucks!) and packed it and then drove it a few miles in the grim rain, unpacked and stowed the stuff, & hurried it back to uHaul.

I will miss my old storage place. Family-run, always the same chatty guy at the entrance (who knew everyone!), fair price, pleasantly dusty & dimly lit. The new place looks like a gated government facility. You could film a horror movie in its never-ending hallways as they arc out of sight; all concrete floors and white metal. The clerks are friendly, but have a slick vibe I don't care for. The place charges $12 more per month, but the unit is bigger than my old one. I'm trying to look on the bright side. *sigh*

Yeah, I suppose the new place is technically more secure. If someone buzzes in using their own code and then messes with my unit instead, a silent alarm allegedly goes off (I don't know if I buy that). What's clear is that they do have cameras everywhere.

Haven't filled up the extra space in the new unit yet, no. Maybe if I usually had access to a car I would've. I have confidence I can manage.

. . . Exotic to have space to spare . . .

At least the guy who owns my old own storage unit is excited to retire, and not being forced out by the real estate boom or anything like that.

The year of mourning, as it were. He died on the first day of Burning Man last year, so if I am going to be a hot mess, I'm going to performance art the fuck out of it.

Just got back from the best event. 3 day makers camp out. (Sacramento Valley Spark put this on.) Now I can straighten out my new shed and organize my burn stuff. Looks like there will be a sale in my future. Some of this hasn't been used in 10 years.

The front seat of my van is always covered with 'stuff' that goes in my backpack. This handy shoe organizer will hang on the headrest and clean up the mess. I cut it in half so I have two of these. (One for my campmate.)

I'm going to write on each pocket. Goggles, chapstick, flashlight, sunglasses, sunscreen, all the things.
