Film - “The Dark Side of the Rainbow”
My campmate is interested in hosting a showing of this film and I wondered if anyone is planning to bring a projector (and electricity!) to do such a thing? We would provide lots of popcorn. Any camp that you know of showing movies?

What about the folks that build that theater out in the Deep Playa? Isn't there one out there every year?
I don't know if they have a strict set of movies they play... but it wouldn't surprise me if they let a Burner play their own film.
Don't know them or the name of the theater hah! But they're out there.
Or go talk to the folks at Camp Suburbia... y'all could have a family movie night lolz...
There's also a college football camp that plays live games hah... if you can convert it to DVD they might let you use their TVs.
I got a friend/former campmate with a projector. Not sure what format it is or you need, but maybe she could bring it and we can figure something out for a screen. And we got generators.
Possibilities... or just bring your own projector, screen and generator and set up a showing on the Playa! Radical self reliance!

Common answer would be you bring a projector, generator, sound system, screen that won't blow around and chairs.
or, look thru last years theme camps and see who is doing movies and contact them...they may be doing it again and might have a time slot available for you.
Good luck ( I not trying to discourage you at all, but just as with sound camps pumping music with not one person in the entire dance space, I've seen movies projected, dozens of chairs, and not one viewer.

Even the best known movies go unwatched there. If you have plush, comfortable sofas and a waiter serving drinks I might flop down and rest for a few minutes.

Outside of the legality of a public showing of copyright material, in this case two separate works mashed up ...daisymaybee wrote: ↑Mon May 27, 2019 9:54 pmFilm - “The Dark Side of the Rainbow”

... if your “friend” really wants to do this, they gotta go renegade!
Bike with a cart, the cart has a small Honda generator, sound, high-lumen projector with a long-throw lens.
Set up and project on random surfaces all over BRC. Be prepared to bolt whenever needed.
I could have fun with something like this.
Re: Showing a film on playa 2019
Pardon me while I eavesdrop for technical information.
I tried screening a documentary in camp last year, but largely failed.
DVD in a MacBook laptop, digital projector, white sheet stretched on the side of a bus, guitar amplifier (amp and speaker in one unit).
I managed to get the film up on the screen a couple times, but not reliably.
The MacBook is obviously a computer, and then it turned out... the projector is smarter than I am, as well.
Granted, I am computer-illiterate.
Probably ought to use a $40.oo DVD player?
I never did get sound out of the amp. It seemed I had it connected with cables that fit, but no sound anyway.
We only need to hear speech in mono -- no music.
So, now I will simply listen in (so to speak). Thanks!

Re: Showing a film on playa 2019
The guitar amp problem is simple.
Impedance mismatch.
Guitar amp inputs have an impedance in the range of 500K - 1M Ohm so that they are orders of magnitude higher than the guitar pickup impedance.
That doesn’t fit well with the line level output from a Mac which will have very low impedance compared to a guitar pickup.
Gotta match the gear for sound.
