ePlaya performance is poor

For weeks, ePlaya phpBB instance has suffered outages, 503 errors and the like. That has led to double posting. Sure the tech team is on top of it.

I have been trying to log in off and on all day. It's only tonight when I changed my bookmark to .org instead of .com that I finally got in. Very slow to load.
If we are under attack (it feels like not enough bandwidth) I wish someone would say something. Is Trilo not in charge any more?

I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing connection issues. While the site does experience delays during peak periods during the high season, the site has been loading. Going through log files, the last 'down' event (timeout when trying to load a page) was a very brief period in late June which appeared to coincide with server maintenance by the cloudy overlords). My own personal experience over the last several weeks has been that pages have been loading with minimal delay on various devices and cable/telecom providers. Though I'm not able to find any info in server logs or reproduce the issue on my end, I can ask the tech team to try and investigate further. Given some of the recent wonkiness affecting various chunks of the internet of late, it may also be something to investigate with your provider.

It is worth pointing out that for assistance with an account or accessing the site, the Contact Us form that's been on the bottom of each page (since around 2013) does work, and in the event that you're unable to reach ePlaya at all the Contact form on the main Burning Man site (in the help & faq section for the last several years) is also working.

Just to add what info I may, I’ve had intermittent access the last couple of days as well. On my phone I was getting the log in page and after logging in was taken to a completely blank page. This happened a few times. Tried on the laptop and got the error 503 (I think). Working fine now, but has been a bit spotty.

Looks like the scramble is somewhere in AWS.

I traced using two different connections. ATT and Comcast.

Things hop relatively smoothly in the CA backbones to US-West AWS then it gets funky.

Lots of latency, as if being routed over satellite for those who know that network pain.

I find I can get in if I shorten the comand to eplaya.burningman.org Deleting everything before and after that. But once I'm in, things are hit and miss. The worst is posting and it disappears. So I'm copying first then try and try.

I've also had some luck moving in slow motion.

I can get in to read posts 50% of the time, at best. I will wait a few days and see if it improves, not worth the work involved.

Downright snappy and crisp.

Usual 4-500 user load and no slowdown.

And they say never do IT work on Friday or risk working all weekend to fix things ...

It would be interesting and worthwhile to analyze the logs for all those connected users.

Rarely are there more than a dozen registered users online at any given time.

Then there are 450+ guests on at all times.

My guess it’s a bunch of bots and crawlers eating up all those threads and connections with some relatively small number of actual guests browsing for BM related information.

Such is the wild wild Internet life.
