Re: Ashes in Temple
You can leave ashes in the Temple. Make sure they're in a combustible container (look on Amazon for bio-degradable urns). I am taking my husband's ashes this year, and his kilt. Hell, a whole skeleton dressed in his gear to hold his paper urn.

Re: Ashes in Temple
In the EIS comments, the local Indian tribes objected to any human remains (including cremains) being left or interred on the playa. Sounds unenforceable to me. Just too many places to look.
Use an unobtrusive container for the ashes, like a manila envelope. Don't ask, don't tell. Nobody, except you, will know.

CREMATED REMAINS (ASHES)
Of special note is the topic of placing cremains in the Temple
Over the years, many participants have sought to place the cremated remains of loved ones in the Temple to provide a final release of their spirit.
While this is understandable, and poignant, the placement of cremated remains without a permit is not allowed by current federal law, and Temple Guardians are not to participate in or facilitate the placing of ashes in the Temple.

AntiM You are as 'casual' as they come. No permit needed.

Thanks very much. How about a toy metal soldier and costume jewelry?
Re: Ashes in Temple
Fair warning! If I give you a tiny bottle necklace that ain't playa dust in it.

Re: Ashes in Temple
I merely point out that the situation is a bit more complex than AntiM's blanket "You can leave ashes in the Temple", and that you should not seek help or assistance from a Temple Guardian.
I sincerely doubt that any Temple Guardian would ever ask to see someone's Permit, or attempt to enforce whatever their personal interpretation is of that Federal law and the BLM's writings on it.
But that is just my individual understanding of the Temple Guardian's job.

Re: Ashes in Temple
Should be okay. I left a two-foot high bride doll once, lots of little metal & costumery there, people going by just cried.
Fair warning: participants come out to sift the ashes when they cool, to make mournful mementos or whatever, so if it would squeek you out to have some random person fondling your burnt stuff don't leave it in the Temple.

MDF. You just made me laugh. "some random person fondling your burnt stuff". Isn't that a reason to go to the event in the first place? So some old guy was licking my tit when I heard the one thing I didn't want to hear. "Hey Ruth. Is that you?"

Re: Ashes in Temple
However, there are a number of articles, recent ones, saying that ashes are routinely left in the Temple. So make your choice. It isn't scattering, so there's that.
