What is it?
The Listener is a giant, multi-player, tricked-out version of the 1980s favorite “Simon" where people work together to repeat sound and light sequences using buttons on pedestals.

Project Background
This project would not have gone forward without the ePlaya Burning Man community.
I asked ePlaya for help estimating the right amount of the budget to request for the grant application, got good feedback, but eventually found out we did not get the grant.
Then out of no where, someone from ePlaya offered to cover almost the entire requested grant amount!

So we started executing on this project timeline as a new artistic group called Skylark Collective.
Most of the work has been done in my backyard, living room and basement in Portland, Oregon. However, a lot of small electronics design and fabrication work was done by hand in San Francisco, and flown up and tested / integrated in two separate trips.
Where possible, we sourced materials for re-use. Most of the wood comes from a previous art piece from the Northwest regional burn, Soak. In fact, one of the pieces has a glory hole that apparently did see action at some point.
We've had a lot of fun building this and are very excited to debut it on-playa. Thank you for your donation and / or sharing of the link to our fundraiser. We hope to take the art to other events and re-use materials and equipment for future Burning Man artwork.
