Tickets import fees

Post by Daniil » Tue Jul 30, 2019 4:39 am

I've just received a message from UPS that I have to pay £85.16 of import fees for my burning man tickets...

Has anyone received this and is there any way that I can not pay for the fees and still get the tickets?

I've never heard of the import fees before. I'm not sure of the country you're in, but possibly they are treating this package as merchandise instead of tickets to an event. That may be worth questioning.

Check the groups on fb, I saw several threads on this but can’t remember which groups since this doesn’t apply to me.

The gist was that this year the BORG did something that made some countries levy a tax on the tickets and the notices that folks have been receiving on this are legitimate

Found one post and it looks like they had to pay the tax, see attached.

There was one other thread on one of the groups where someone posted some ideas on how to contest the tax and not have to pay it.

"Import Fees" not import duty nor import tax.
UPS tries to scam fees for all international crossings possible.
If there is actual duty, then they hit you will an inflated Broker Fee.
They devise their fee based on what they think the receiver will pay.
If it's going to a business address, they'll raise it even more.
UPS is the worst international shipper possible.
