Let's talk Port-a-Potties
Let's talk Port-a-Potties
Did any of you have the pleasure of having a porta-a-pottie that was themed/ dedicated/ or decorated? We were at 3:15 & E and had one dedicated to Prince and one to Queen? I was inspired by this...funny thing, they stayed clean and I would wait in line to use either. It gave me and idea...Let's start a "Pimp a Potty" project. If we all just picked 1 to care for during the burn and maintained it daily, just think how any many smiles we could make.....Whose in?

I used the Prince one a few times, props to the caretaker who made my visits more enjoyable.

I'm down. I imagine that this would need to be decorated in a way that is easy to remove.

I plan on doing this in 2021. I've got a theme with music playing and lights to compliment. Should be fun!

Finding a cool decorated Porto is pretty fun, if you do dress one up please make sure you attach stuff very firmly. After a week or more, the decorations start to get moopy. Make sure anything you Putin there can’t easily fall into the the actual toilet as that can fuck up the operation when the crews come around to pump them out.
That typo above . Yes, I’m aware...
Anyhoo more info can be found at the Burningman Porto Project. It’s also a pretty fun dept to volunteer for. No touching of the poop required

A little off topic but has anyone used a cassette toilet on the Playa and are people allowed to empty them in to the Portos? I'm considering getting one for camping in general and think they would be pretty handy at Burning Man.
I'm assuming that several people brought them to the renegade Burns.

Just googled cassette toilet
I don’t see why you couldn’t empty it into a porto. Go for it

Vandal proof projects as well or you will be very saddened. Some very nice electronic audio programs didn’t make it past opening day and the artist was very bitter about it, but…The best Porto mod I’ve encountered was one with no roof. It was some idjit running across the tops who broke through, I guess. Not something I would recreate, but it sure was breezy and nice.

Re: Let's talk Port-a-Potties
I would recommend anyone camped near a row of porta potties bring a bench or wood picnic table to set up, leaving room for the trucks, but back against whatever is opposite the doors. People are always waiting for others outside the portas. I've camped by them for many years and it has been a strange joy, though the winds... of fortune were in our favor.

Re: Let's talk Port-a-Potties
I also recommend that anyone looking to decorate a porta-potty get in touch with Burning Man DPW well in advance of the event. They can put you in touch with the individuals involved in the porta-potties on the playa.
Porta-potties are rental equipment for Burning Man, and after hundreds if not thousands of the rentals having been damaged, modified (holes drilled, etc), or just tagged... United Services has some rules on what they're okay with and what will get Burning Man slapped with penalties and fines. I think people (including DPW) love the porto experience being made better in any way, but they want to avoid anything that could either lead to penalties or that might be considered a pain in the ass for the cleaning crews. If someone's willing to commit to trying to do it right, and cleaning up their efforts at the end of the event, they would love to help. That, and if you're planning on camping near a particular bank of portos, they may be able to get you set up with additional rolls of tp so you could add additional rolls when things start getting busy. I want to say they call them Potty Angels, but I may be wrong.

Porta Pottie Project brought to you by Elder Wrong. He and his camp are located in the 404 Village Not Found. It’s a really fun gig to volunteer for and no, we don’t touch poop. No handling of the poop required
