I remember when I lived in Southern, CA and there was thunder, it made it on the 11:00 news. "That wasnt an explosion, folks, that was THUNDER!" and people would call in to the radio station and tell what they were doing when they heard the thunder. Like they do when there is an earthquake. People down there need weather for often, I think.

uh,

err,

no,

besides, surge boxes can't do shit if'n yer power gets hit by a strike. Had a friend show one of his that was turned to slag by a direct hit on his line out in Vt. Still, good things to have when the power gets spikey.

yeah, electrical storms are pretty rare here. When they do hit though they are often accompanied by wacky shit like water spouts in the bay.

Ah...the joy of a laptop on batteries with a wireless connection. Worst that can happen is my cable modem dies.

How about a drink? Anything. Really.

I had come her direct from NYC after the great noreaster of the early nineties. You know, 'the perfect storm' basically a low grade hurricane hitting manhattan. So, I come to La La land and they are getting some rain after a long drought and the local news is all 'STORM WATCH'. Cracked me up til I started noticing how folks drive here when it gets a bit wet.

It's been raining since Christmas night here ... not hard and not consistantly, just an on-again off-again sprinkle for several days now. The kids got some outside toys that I would love for them to be able to get out and play with. Weather forecast says rain all the way through next weekend too.

I moved up here in the SF Bay area after the Blizzard of '96

But yeah, the first time I experianced a Southern California storm was in 89. People were talking about the "storm" and I commented that all I had seen was some mist and drizzle. The looked at me like I was crazy ... that WAS the storm.

The first good rain is a mess because since they dont get a good rain for months and months (and sometimes even YEARS), the first good rain floats all the oil that has dripped off the cars onto the roadbed and it is slicker than snot on a marble floor. Oh, and then there are the dumbasses that pull over under the nearest overpass and smack their foreheads with their hands going "windshield wipers! I KNEW I forgot SOMETHING this year!"

Ya' know, it's funny, but people in Portland can't seem to drive in the rain, either. Dunno' why... it's rain, you slow down a little.

People, eh?

I think it is fascinating that people think they can drive, and talk on the phone while watching a video and reading the newspaper and fixing their makeup and/or hair and pick their noses and eat a Carls Jr burger and yell at the kids and the driver in front/rear/side and call OnStar for directions and try to use their GPS and shift gears and chew freekin gum all at the same time. Did I mention that my truck has these nifty little handles on the door that if rotated, move the window up and down?

Wow heli! I thought *I* was the only one that had those! {except the driver side one broke off and now is sporting one of those locking wrench-type gadget things (whatever it's called, I know how to use it).
