So now we have a polarized nation, talking about strategic voting, and accepting the fact they are meaningless in the grand scheme of things. Grenell does have one key attribute for a DNI—the President's full and utter confidence. The problem is that he may very well be even more ignorant of intelligence matters than the man he will be advising. And, while the position is seen as determinedly non-partisan, Grenell is very much a polarizing figure, which no doubt is one attribute that appeals especially to the President. Coupled with a long history of nastiness and misogyny that nearly torpedoed his Senate confirmation as ambassador to Germany, his is a resume that bodes ill for this most sensitive of administration positions.

Trump's modus is to (lie) deny responsibility for anything bad he's done, (lie) claim credit for anything that others do or just happens and finally lie that bad is good.

As you note, Trump is afraid of the economic implications for him of an outbreak, not being reelected and subsequently being locked up.

An infectious outbreak is statistical epidemiology. Usually counties and states have epidemiological detection and response plans. But some states and counties may be insufficiently prepared because of ideological budget cuts. It also does not help we have and outbreak of childhood vaccine denial.

That universal free health care could really come in handy with a still unacceptable number of uninsured, and people afraid of diagnosis, testing, and losing work.

There is a good argument that Trump is a product of Fox. Fox and alarmist media will eat him now.

And of course he's set up Pence to take the fall.
