With this theme, even if you don't score tickets, in some parallel universe, rest assured, you did! Quantums always increase the odds. In one universe you are in a 5 hour online queue, in another, 3 and a half hours. And one of you somewhere didn't set the alarm. Does that increase the odds of parallel you getting a ticket? Does this universes you take one for the team?
Even if you don't go, you will.
And if you do, you won't.
Even if you don't go, you will.
And if you do, you won't.

Re: Theme for 2020: Multiverse
Savannah, my dear, I'm not going to worry about scoring a ticket. My current multiverse is an extremely high pressure high temperature environment. It's what happens when you take a PhD in geology and my little mind gets extremely impressed by the combination of lithosphere, asthenosphere, and magnetosphere, along with the mesosphere and core, where iron has a density of 12 g/cu. cm. Compaction pressures we can barely imagine. Heat from Brownian molecular motion gets enhanced in tight quarters, along with the heat from natural radioactive decay. See, I'm taking Plate tectonics this semester, and the Earth still has the seemingly limitless capacity to blow my mind.
Multiple universes? Drop by 177A Bleeker Street in Greenwich Village, and Dr. Strange, master of the mystic arts, might be able to help.
Remember, it's all 'relative'. Use your comfortable frame of reference, but open your heart to other frames.
Hugs to all you crazy wonderful folk. I miss you

This should be interesting.

How difficult can an "Occam's Razor" theme camp be? I'm sure there's a simple solution....
How many old burners does it take to change a light bulb? Just one to change the bulb..... and five more to reminisce how good the old bulb was....

Re: Theme for 2020: Multiverse
The Multiverse for reals...
You could think of Burning Man as a universe of planets, like bank accounts, employees, suppliers/their contracts/ insurance, 2019 work to finish, DOI/BLM/Pershing/NHP/Carson City, and towns along the way. And there is a universe of moons, all the regionals and summits. There are asteroid fields of in-person burner relationships. There are all the far flung individual burner stars and closer in year around volunteers. Each of these is exerting a gravitational relationship with all the others that changes over time because of their orbits.
The multiverse is calculating a large number of alternatives for canceling or persisting at various times in the space time continuum.
Realistically, because of bureaucratic inertia, optics, and risk aversion, the DOI/BLM would probably only make a decision a month before. They probably have guaranteed jobs for life anyway. Any contracts previously signed may have cancelation clauses. The tickets essentially have cancelation clauses and the ticketing contract likely has a SETI-verse of fine print.
Social media is ill-equipped to discuss complex universes, much less, multiverses. But of course we will do it anyway!

Re: Theme for 2020: Multiverse
I think you hit the nail right on the head, Some Seeing Eye: "bureaucratic inertia".
The bureaucrats will be loathe to make any decision, that in retrospect, may reflect badly upon them. Even if the Nevada Board of Health said they have a 99% certainty that COVID-19 will not be transmitted on the playa, that 1% chance might bite them in the ass if somebody gets critically ill, or dies.
So, they "what if?" it in their doom and gloom scenarios and decide not to issue the 2020 operating permit, or claim they didn't get the green light from Board of Health in time to push the permit through. They have absolutely no incentive to risk their quasi-professional ass for a bunch of technohippies.
Maybe next year....
