we had a fun thread some years ago here, folks could post their projects and fixes.
With the isolation we're in, might be fun to see what folks are doing and making, with all this time to create?
Photos and or descriptions are fun!
I'll start:
I'm making steel outer doors for my Hof:
3/16 plate, 1/4" bar stock for outer reinforcements and decoration, 1.5x1.5x1/8 square tubing for the frame.
made my own hinges from 3/4" solid bar stock for pins and 1/4" wall drill steel for sleeves.
pre-hung on 10" channel iron frame.
locking lugs are 1/2" high carbon steel, 3 horizontal, 3/4" vertical pins
assembly is 8' tall x 7.5 wide.

Having my kitchen completely gutted and remodeled and working from home has its challenges . I have been cleaning/organizing drawers and closets though. Kitchen will be done next week so hopefully I’ll be able to get some weird paper mache sculptures started oh and I want to funky paint some old furniture too

Got a 1980 300SD. Been waiting to do an unlikely restomod. Pulled the Timex Turbo Diesel engine and trans out. Gonna bolt it to a Volvo swingarm, along with bolting the transmission directly to the Volvo Detroit locker. I'm then going to put it between the rails of a dual torsion axle boat trailer, and put removable motorcycle forks and wheel on the hitch. Why? I'm building a Giant suitcase to live in, and when you take the four trailer wheels off, it becomes a Giant platform trike. I suck at maneuvering trailers and because I need to skewer the suitcase, it has to go in more precise then I can accomplish. It will also be a mobile manufacturing platform. I've got piles and piles of stuff, that pretty much dictates everything I do. Unfortunately you might notice, I get lost in this world, but I always find my way back to reality, because that is what the design is for.

I used to collect 70's-80's MBZ diesels. Great parts!

Gotta work on being more computer literate. I so much want to post some project pictures, but haven't taken the time to figure it out. I like the old Benz motor cause at some point it will run on just about anything, and the cast iron power steering can be used for hydraulic something? Of course there is that compressor thing I want to test as well. I got an arsenal of 4" cooler panels I can pack in the suitcase, and retrofit for quick assembly when I reach my destination. I'm a big fan of Chevy Volt batteries, power inverters, and insanely fast E-bikes. I gotta admit I will always love the sound of gas, but not when there is blood money in the tank. Change is long overdue, but never too late.

I moved, and set up mobile homes in tornado alley. Before the super awesome transit, we used rollers, steel 4x4s, and a come-along to position the trailer. Looking at the hardware you got, I'm sure it's figured out.

Ha! maybe so? though, I don't know the Amish want to hang with us Nordic Pagans...

I did get it moved though!
and yeah, it did slide on it's own down the drill steel. Luckily, I measured the "stop chains" right, so they caught just before the shop wall. One, a little closer than comfortable, but, well, it worked.

Spent too much time designing again. Perfect weather, should've been building. Looking at two rainy days in the forecast. Gotta get everything undercover. Got lost in my junk again, but I came up with a practical transformer truck that will carry a sliced bread, Lego hut. My big dream! Lego livin, with a healthy inventory of Eggo waffles, good wine, and kind bud.

Very cool yg! I may have asked before, and forgotten, but wondering about that initial split. Pilot holes, and then flat chisel in-between them? Or drive wedges into the pre-drilled holes? Or perhaps prop it up on something along the 'fault' line and give it a little persuasion?

Anyhow, it's always fun seeing your work ygmir, especially at the scale you do it!

well, in the holes, I put "plug and feathers"....some call them "wedge and feathers".....a simple steel wedge, put between two "feathers" which are thicker at the bottom than the top, and the tops are bent outward so they don't fall it. They are oriented perpendicular to the direction you want the stone to split linearly, and tapped in succession, until the outwar force of the wedges create a crack. You can also pre weaken the line with a 'hand set", which is shown in the photo, the wide, blunt chisel looking thing. works pretty slick.

Ah yes, thanks for the insight yg!

Over here, the last couple of days I've been working on some 'window frame' trim pieces to fit around the exterior of several windows in back. Going with that look instead of shutters I think. The pieces have to be individually customized a bit though, so it isn't quite as straightforward as it might seem. Using Cypress wood, and it occurred to me that I haven't ever worked with it much in the past. It's a lot softer than I realized. Should be fine though since it is primarily decorative, and it takes stain nicely.

ah cypress. IIRC, it's pretty rot resistant, yes?
I know I used some cypress (maybe a different species?) for the loft beams in my Hof, and it's so damn hard when dry, you can't barely drive a nail in. They are 8x8 beams, though, maybe that matters? Or, they guy I got them from didn't know what he was saying...
(I got them before I got my own sawmill, so had to depend on others).

Then he found out it was nearly all rock, and he couldn't drill & blast due to damage risks to surrounding old stately homes; and code required a basement. But he could drill. He made his lines of holes like you did, to form a grid, then filled the holes with water and capped the top to keep the water in. After the winter freeze and expansion, he dug the cracked rock out and had his basement/foundation hole. I got an "A" for that suggestion.

Oops, Dang! I misspoke. I meant to say cedar wood for the decorative framing. (or what the lumber supply store refers to as cedar anyhow)

very cool. It must get pretty cold where you are.. that won't work here, but know it does. There is an expanding product sold, where you pour the powder in the holes and mix some water. I've not used it, but hear it's effective. The issue is, you don't know when it'll break, so it's a "pour and go home" and usually by the next day it's done it's work.

@BVB: ah ok, cedar. that makes more sense, soft pliable wood great for trim and such. Somewhat rot/insect resistant. Too bad you're not closer. I saw a lot of pine and incense cedar here with my Woodmizer sawmill. Making custom stuff for folks and myself at times.

here's a cedar stump I dug out yesterday. Neighbor took the tree down because it was a danger to his house, I'll make lumber from it with my mill.

Replaced rickety wooden deck rail with stuff around the yard.

Didn't have to buy ANY materials!!! (kids, this is why old people save jars of random bolts, nuts, and screws.)

The orange piece dictated the other pieces.

Made a drop ramp for a small trailer that wasn't as strong as I would've liked, so now it's a gate.

Didn't have a piece for the fourth side, but did have a bunch of 3/4 conduit cutoffs, so I drilled holes in top and bottom rails and stuck um in.

Metal was a little thin to trust just cutting and welding without reinforcement, so I cut, overlapped and bolted the pieces together.

Hurricane Matthew hit this Island about 4 years ago. I have a friend that has a sawmill. There were mountains of fallen trees, so selection was abundant. He literally had an unbelievable art gallery, in a dehumidified room waiting to be completely cured. It was awesome to see the treasures unveiled when the wood was sliced. His inventory went fast when it was sealed, and properly finished. Lots of burl too.

A three wheel drive electric drift trike. Three motors, total 9000w. Gotta raise the seat, getting to old, to get that low.

yeah, it's pretty amazing at times, what appears after the bandsaw blade on my mill pass and I take the board off. Like you say, like art with every board. Especially hardwoods, which have so much character at times.
