China's saving face and saving the economy by delaying was repeated by Trump, and the leaders of Mexico, Brazil, Belarus are still at it. It was the same, for a time, with the UK, Spain and Iran. The countries that skipped the denial were South Korea, Taiwan and Germany.

In a way we were fortunate that SARS-1 (2002-3) prepared us for this, but the lesson did not sink in.
