So who is still going?
Now that we know the BMORG is out of the loop, are there any radically self-reliant individuals ready to create their own MultiVerse this year?
Will the BLM close the playa as usual to keep an uncontrolled crowd from assembling?
Can we relive the old post Baker Beach days?
Can't beat a free retro-burn....uncluttered with no plug and play crapola. It can even be an unofficial fund raiser for the Mother BMORG. Let's work something out...with proper social distancing of course!
Who's in???

I've been daydreaming of the same thing.
We'd need to be extra careful about LNT

Nah, I don’t think so. How thrilled do you think the folks in Gerlach, Empire or Pyramid Lake Reservation going to feel about you all coming through our communities?
Oh my god, it's HUGE!
Re: So who is still going?
BLM would be extremely shortsighted if they don't do a hard closure. I would be shocked if that's the case. However, if it's not closed... I'll probably be there.

Absolutely not. Based on my geographical spot, the daily emails, the . . . the everything?
Nah.
I might try to do a national park in a few months. If it's open.
This is a good opportunity to do something else. Or at minimum, save a little money. I'm super glad I went last year, even if it wasn't my favorite Burn, by a long shot. There were some really amazing moments.

I’m glad you were there last year too. I’ll miss seeing your beautiful face. I’m on the saving a little money team this year.Savannah wrote: ↑Mon Apr 20, 2020 8:26 pmYaaaas, Queen.

Re: So who is still going?
In 2011 when the event sold out for the first time, there was talk of an overflow party on the adjacent Smoke Creek Desert.
That plan was shut down pretty quickly.

My fiance and I live in Eureka, CA - about five hours away. We're still planning to show up, though haven't decided if we're staying on the playa the whole week or exploring the area more. I'd love to coordinate with others going...
Re: So who is still going?
You should have a back-up plan. Maybe reservations in Reno? The roads may be closed. I'm guessing the playa will be closed to camping or even day visiting.

I concur. I anticipate there will be a police presence. They know how stubborn folks are.

I have a feeling that the Black Rock Desert will become a magnet for people toward mecca for generations to come. This year however, I fully expect that there will be police blocking the roads for people attempting to camp on the site where Burning Man is held.

Re: So who is still going?
So, for how many years will BLM continue to block the access to these public lands, for whatever socially based reason? I guess Ma and Pa Kettle and their dog Spot, on a vacation across the country during the golden years of their life in their Wannebaygo Family Truxster, will be stoned at the gate to the Black Rock Desert, because they "Might be some of those dirty hippies"
Public land is just that, public. Available to all, for any reasonable legal use. To arbitrarily designate a public area off limits because "undesirable" people may populate it, is discriminatory in so many aspects.

Public doesn't mean "yours do do what you want with it."

Is there not a no go zone during the event, that will probably still be implemented.

Re: So who is still going?
It would be great if the org could/would buy up a larger resort hotel in Reno and make it a year round Burning Man hotel. Larryland could become a reality. All the toilets could be removed from the rooms and we could poop and pee in buckets.

You can go camp there now if you’d like, it’s open.
Burn time, there will prob be closure.

Re: So who is still going?
Yeah, I took that tour. It is decorated very nicely. The only time I stay in Reno is coming or going from the burn. With no restaurant, no safe parking and limited amenities it's not on my 'must do' list. I need my own bathroom for long luxurious showers.

You aren’t the one who is deciding whether you’re gonna stay on the playa that week...
Good luck with that.
I have an old former-friend who’s in the joint. Say hi to him for me. And get the goddamm letters straight when you make my license plate.

If I'm ever out that way, I would certainly head to the playa and have my lunch there. I will stick around for a few hours and then go home.

Well it is public land. Plenty of people went to juplaya. I don't think its really going to have the same vibe as some people think it will though...

I would never subject myself to go out there and in most likelihood, find the majority of people there the same type of people who I saw rolling around in the ashes of the man 22 years ago. A sight I can never unsee or unthink.Captain Goddammit wrote: ↑Sat Jul 11, 2020 8:00 amIronically these people think that desert is “home”.
It imprinted me so deep I get the willies when anyone greets me with "Welcome home!"

Re: So who is still going?
Just got off the phone with the head Winneucca BLM guy in charge of Black Rock. There is not, nor will there be a BLM closure order for the Playa. Not enough time or interest to get one set up. The playa will be open to all!
But...
The Pyramid Indian Reservation has been allowed control of 446 and not 447, the main highway from Fernley.
So it looks like it’ll be up to the counties or the state to restrict travel to the playa. But will they or can they close a primary arterial for days or weeks?
I hope the folks that do get out there don’t trash it for everyone...
