RIP Charlie Daniels, one of my oft-quoted and beloved singer-songwriters, who established by funding a new veterans educational center at Middle Tennessee State University and wrote such classics of the country/southern rock genre as "Long-haired Country Boy", "The Devil Went Down To Georgia" and "Still in Saigon", performing these hits well into his 70s touring every year. He established the Volunteer Jam, a yearly festival that began long before Lollapalooza.

RIP Ennio Morricone, a legend in composition and conducting made even more famous by the use of his compositions by Italian director Sergio Leone in what came to be known as 'spaghetti westerns'.

Sergio Leone's masterwork, The Good, the Bad and the Ugly includes this never-to-be-forgotten composition, here performed by the Danish National Symphony. The film, set in Civil War New Mexico, includes Clint Eastwood, Lee Van Cleef, and Eli Wallach as the good, the bad, and the ugly. Historically accurate, the film's setting occurs at the time of Confererate General Sibley's invasion of New Mexico and Arizona in 1862. I invite you to close your eyes and listen to the piece while you imagine the smell of burning gunpowder and mesquite, feel the warmth of the hot New Mexico sun, and you may feel shivers running up your spine as I did.

Brother in law, passed away at home last night. My sister was able to say goodbye. It was a short battle with cancer, and I was releaved, he didn't suffer too long. He was a bulldozer, and a good man, from the first day I met him, to his last day. He will be missed, but I'm sure he'll be in a crazy heaven, specific to him.
