Hopefully 2021??

Post by ToniWhy » Fri Jan 22, 2021 12:14 pm

I wanted so badly to go in 2020, we had a whole plan. It would have been our first burn. So what is the news for 2021?? Will tkts go on sale as usual?

This is a bucket list item for my friend and me, we are really hoping everything pulls together for 2021.

Hopefully 2021 will happen and you get to put the Sharpie check mark on your bucket list item. It will be fun. So what other things are on the list? 8)

Frankly, spending a week in an RV will be new LOL. I don't have an official list, just stuff that comes up and I really want to do. Been skiing, scuba diving, owned 5 motorcycles, etc. I've been sky diving but tandem so as far as I'm concerned it doesn't count. Working on getting certified.

A friend of mine wanted to go to BM for her brother, who was ill and never got to go before he passed. I'm just the crazy person who would go along. But it seems to me like a massive and fascinating sociological study and I want to see it first hand. I might never do it again, but I can do it once!

How often have you gone? What do you think is going on for 2021? Tell me anything you think first timers should know.

...as opposed to all the "Me 'n mah friend..." which contaminates the interwebs these days.

Welcome to ePlaya, ToniWhy!

Your enthusiasm for studying a fascinating sociological phenomenon is also encouraging. There is Stuff lurking to be revealed. (Besides the secret goat sacrifices.)

The latest Burning Man news for 2021 came out around five hours ago, on the Theme Camp Placement e-mail list, and in a nut-shell the word was "no clue".
But definitely nothing "as usual", seems safe to say.

You may have noticed... this coronavirus is not quite "as usual", having the potential to wipe half the human population off the planet in a year or three. Of course, this would be good for the planet, so I am all for it.
I will be watching from my barn in Clearlake, while preparing my camp's equipment for a possible Burning Man in maybe 2023.

Gonna miss ya, Sham! I hope it will be quick and minimally painful.
[Full disclosure; Sham is a dear personal friend – even if he lives on the wrong coast; and likes telephones, which I loathe.]

Burning Man should not be a "bucket list item". Try "commitment".

And what, pray tell, do you intend to contribute?

Please heed my thoughts. I have owned hecka more motorcycles, and I darn tootin' know better than to jump out of a perfectly well-functioning airplane. If you must jump out of an airplane, please make it my Grumman Albatross, which already lost its engines decades ago, and is now gaining a grand piano to keep it safely weighed down and Playa-bound.

Where was I? Spending a week in an RV will be the least of your whatnot. And you are certainly not going to "see" it. Burning Man cannot be seen. Nor "experienced", as seems so fashionable. Nor explained. Burning Man can only be lived.

But "massive" is accurate.

As for "anything I think first-timers should know"....

Now. Toni.

Since you bring up the sad fact about your friend's late brother....
In Black Rock City – which is what it is; a community, rather than anything else – out well past 12:00 O'Clock, you and your friend will find the Temple.

And on that note....

There is a video around here somewhere, posted in the last few weeks. "Charlie Goes To Burning Man" or some such.
It is the closest I have found to "explaining" Burning Man – and since you asked, I have gone annually since 2006.
Ah, here it is.

Hey, welcome to ePlaya!

There is likely a "Burning Man Regional" near you. They have online right now and post-COVID in-person meetups.

So you might meet them.

If you find you are not attracted to the culture, you can save a large amount of money and disappointment by finding out early the remote wilderness campout is not for you. And if you like them, they are there for your prep.

It’s gonna happen whether the BMORG holds the event or not, just like in 2020.
The irony is you can go if it’s cancelled, and you probably can’t go if it isn’t.
Tickets are hard to come by and largely luck of the draw. Demand surpassed supply almost ten years ago, and demand for the next one will probably be even higher.

But if it’s “cancelled”, you don’t need a ticket! Burners just go and make it happen anyway.

So, yeah... oddly enough, your best bet to be able to go is gonna be if it’s “cancelled” again.

I would still go camp if it’s canceled!

Hey there, welcome to ePlaya!
Elderberry

When I was a kid I used to pray every night for a new bicycle.
Then I realized that the Lord doesn't work that way so I stole one and asked Him to forgive me

even if this year everything happens, then the most difficult thing is to buy tickets, and not to find out whether the festival will take place, we somehow did not have time to buy tickets 3 times in a row
