How much water to bring

Pre-PS ok found some good advice on some burner websites. so the recommendation is 1.5 gallons a day. one gallon to drink and the other half for washing, food prep and misting. So 20 gallons for one person for 10 days is just about right. the extra half gallon a day will be for that occasional wayward thirsty person. They also recommend adding electrolytes to the water which you can buy the little pre-measured packets. Just dump that shit in there son!

Question for a first timer. How much water per day should one person bring. I'm staying the full 10 days. is 2 gallons a day for one person too much or not enough?

According to the Mayo clinic women need almost 3 liters of water a day in a desert and men need almost 4 liters which is a gallon.

so the second gallon would be for cooking, washing, teeth brushing and misting.

Hi! You will find lots of information on this as you read through the Burning Man web site. Especially the Survival Guide. As far as water: one to two gallons per day is pretty usual. Bear in mind that you will likely also have lots of liquids you will bring to drink, like tea, soft drinks, coffee, bottled water. And Gatorade or an equivalent is critically important in the heat of the playa. You likely will bring ice to start and buy more at Black Rock City. That will get added to drinks and contribute, and the ice melt can be used for showers. All of those serve as trade offs to your water needs.

As I get older, I have become a huge proponent of adult Pedialyte.

You can purchase boxes of power packets to mix with water. I would recommend drinking one every day on the playa to stay extra hydrated.

Put your ice in big ziplocks.

It will keep the melt water clean enough for anything you need it for.

My first year I brought coconut water as my electrolyte, which I enjoy drinking IRL. I found that it makes me nausous on playa and ended up going home a day early because I was sick and needing electrolytes. Bring at least 2 idfferent kinds. NUUN works for me.

I carry a 12 ounce stainless steel thermos with me all the time (attached rubber top). Every third fill, I fill it with Gatorade (powdered stuff). Works for me.

I go through about a gallon and a half of water a day.

Sunday through Monday is 8 days. Mid-day Sunday through mid-day Monday is 7 days. I usually bring 20 gallons. I take an about 1/2 - 2/3 gallon solar camping shower each full day. I usually end up with extra at the end.

I like to get 5 gallon camp water storage containers and keep them filled around home. Some people get the 2 gallon water suitcases or gallons from the grocery. Water in the car weighs about about half to the same as a person. Some people fill their water containers on the road. The theory is that t costs extra fuel to carry water. It probably costs about as much in fuel as you have to pay for water if you are traveling less than 500 miles.

There has been a ranch in past years near Eagleville offering self-service water fill. I've gotten it from the hose with permission when I fueled up in Lakeview, and sometimes you can find the same in Alturas. In Gerlach you generally have to pay by the gallon.

I do fine on 1.5 gallons per day; that's drinking + spray bottle "showers".

(Remember that--if you're in a car--you'll probably also bring soda/seltzer/juice and hydrate on that too.)

A little body wash liquifies really easily in spray bottles with water. Shake it. And bring more than one spray bottle, so you can use lemon or vinegar in the other, for quick feet hygiene before a night out (lotion up afterward, before socks).

Stand on a hand towel. You can dry off with a second one, or even a washcloth. Clothespin the one you barely used for drying, inside a decent tent or whatever, and you might be able to use it a second time.

I know bathing with spray bottles sounds weird, but I get complimented to a surprising degree for smelling nice, and there are some who truly get by on (well-hydrated) wipes alone. The air is very dry, and most people smell decent, neutral or not at all, with basic measures.

Note: My water use doesn't include dishwashing. I eat off of paper/compostables or out of containers, and compost or burn the leftovers. I'm not at Burning Man to eat.

We had a flavor tripping party with a lot of recent college grads. The drink was a large tub of PBR and Tang. So a punch of PBR and Emergen-C would be the playa version. The legend is that the PBR brand revived nationally starting at a certain dive bar near that very college,

Guys, I found this article on reddit And I really didn't understand if burning man sells coffee or not? As I wrote earlier, I love coffee and most often buy African coffee, something like this. But I don't want to carry a lot of food with me. Will it be possible to buy coffee, water, food there, or is it better to bring it with you?

Center Cafe sells coffee as a social lubricant, as well as a few other drinks. There are also ice sales at the Antarticas for health and safety. If you want food and water, you must bring it yourself.
