I'm moving back to the east coast. Gonna spend two weeks driving a bus with seats and beds across the country, seeing friends and art, doing nature and tourist stuff, and generally hanging out with whoever else is along for the ride. A few friends and friends of friends have signed on for parts of the trip, but there's plenty of room left. If anyone wants to join for a few miles or a few thousand, get in touch! We depart SF on Monday (sorry for the short notice).

Particularly notable stops include Omegamart, Meow Wolf, and Halloween weekend in New Orleans. There's plenty of time for other stops along the way, as well.
If you want to make a reply about my personality instead of about what this thread is about, don't clutter this thread, post over here instead.

A question:
Are you taking Zorbs? and will you stop to ride them along the way?

Fine travels, and document it!

ePlaya was neg on you initially. But you kept at it and documented the quintessential box truck.

Suggest you may be a resource to new bus virgin burners to reply by PM on eplaya as they come up.

For this project, regionals, you prob are doing.

Have fun!

OK so we gotta talk about the New Mexican food. So just after you cross the border into New Mexico from Arizona theres a town called Gallup. Jerry's cafe is THE place to eat. The place is low-key famous among New Mexicans, and for good reason.

Albuquerque has a million options but The Frontier is always fun. El Modelo is classic and their carne adovada is insanely delicious.

Take the "back road" from ABQ to Santa Fe, it goes around the backside of the Sandias and through the funky old mining town of Madrid. Definitely worth a stop. The Mineshaft Tavern is a fun old west style saloon that has live music and variety performances on weekends.

Once you're in Santa Fe theres a place called The Pantry, just down the street from Meow Wolf. Santa Fe is known for its food and The Pantry is one of the best. And unlike a lot of Santa Fe restaurants, it wont break the bank. The sopapillas are wonderful.

enjoy :coffee:

From your travels, do you know about the apps/websites Roadside America, Atlas Obscura, and the Center for Land Use Interpretation? It is not on your map, but I've always wanted to visit Marfa.

We went more north.

Recently my wife and I took a 11,000 mile trip from the Pacific to the Atlantic and back…..zigzagging across the Northern part of our continent including Canada.
up into Nova Scotia..… Maine The glaciers waters of Lake Louise, across Saskatchewan and the Center of Canada ,The great divide ,Grand Tetons…..and many many other areas in between….It took us four weeks.
We saw things in that four weeks most people don’t get to see in a lifetime. We were so grateful for all of our experiences.

Boy do we have some wild story’s. None I can tell on here.

The Cantilever Hotel distillery on the Canadian/US border was great I definitely would go back again.

Stayed on main street where a wonderful life was filmed in the finger lakes area of New York.
That Main Street now has a psychic ,a Mexican restaurant and a pot shop all in a row right there on Main Street. Is it still a wonderful life? Ask the psychic.
I have a “”it’s too green I don’t do green”” story that’s hilarious from that Mexican restaurant we ate at.

“The George” in Washington DC was fantastic stole a robe from there. Well I told them but they didn’t charge me soooo…..
Went to the Smithsonian ,Lincoln Memorial ,Whitehouse, Congress, all the DC locations that people go to. Man my feet hurt when we got Back to the hotel. But we were pleasantly met with a glass of champagne at the door when we got back. Thanks George.

Moab was amazing. I was just speechless. definitely going back there.

We had hoped to see the badlands in Canada. But…Laughs

Navigation in the car had us go up a twisty dirt road with switchbacks up the side of a mountain... just as we hit the badlands.... at the top that dirt road ended up being straight 65 miles long at 55 mph. Bypassed the badlands completely. Yes I said a dirt road with a 80 kilometer an hour speed limit. Speed limit signs and everything. I was doing 55 mph and people were catching and passing me. On a washboard dirt road.
>Shrugs his shoulders< Canada.

It’s like navigation said that’s the badlands you don’t want to go there. I found a straight road for you and yes it was straight…. For 65 miles.

Ended up being a 12 hour trip.

Bump wasn’t happy but I Loved it all. She wasn’t very nice to the Navigation when it talked after that.

Yellowstone was pretty cool.
Just don’t take selfie‘s with the fluffy cows. Watched a bear chase a bunch of people taking pictures of it. They sure did scramble when it started up that hill at them.

Indianapolis raceway was pretty cool …so was the museum and the car show that was going on when we were there.

Maine was pretty cool. Lobster rolls were fantastic. Yes we had several.

We had reservations planned all the way across the trip so we just would walk in check in the hotel.
Then hit the hotel or local bar and have great drinks and dinners.

Just outside Yellowstone I had bison elk chili that was fantastic. So good I came home bought elk and bison and made it again myself.

Vermont was beautiful. Found great coffee roasters that offers lots of great product from around the world. I’ll be ordering lots of coffee and tea from them. I can hardly wait to try coffee aged in pig whistle whiskey barrels. That’ll go good with my bourbon barrel aged maple syrup from the cantilever distillery.

I also discovered real maple syrup and maple lattes now my new favorite. We order maple syrup straight from a place in Vermont and then Cantilever distilleries Hotel also.

Ben & Jerry’s was tasty straight from the factory. No lines if you go early and off-season. Love those guys. Respect.

Received a ton of cheese from my sister in Wisconsin. Picked up some vaseline glass antiques also. I’m not sure about Carolina reaper pepper cheese though. Had a great time.

We were in the Bean town bar in Boston when Boston won one of their games. Everybody in the bar was watching the game. When they won the whole bar burst out into song …singing three or four songs all in unison. It was a great thing to experience.

It took a 14 hour drive trying to get back across the border from Canada into Montana. (Not all border crossings are open 24 hours a day always check) So after hitting one that was closed we had to drive three more hours to one that was open just to get into Montana to then Drive to my sisters house.
We were met with a warm room and mints on the pillow. We greatly appreciate it after that unusual long drive.
Sad I didn’t get to spend much time with her.
Both sisters set up rooms that were on the level of any of the hotels we stayed in. They both had a themes, fresh flowers and mints on the pillows none of the hotels did that.

We did stop at a Walmart in Maine while we were waiting for our covid test so we could go across the border. Bump said they had fresh flowers in the women’s bathroom…. In a Walmart. It was the cleanest Walmart we’ve ever seen in our life including the parking lot outside. More to that story ….but I can’t tell on here.

I think one of my favorite locations was Lake Louise in Canada and the glacier that feeds the lake.

I will say this …Canada is everything the United States should be.
I’m Sad and ashamed about this country ….we should know better.

We may go north when Bump retires…..Oh wait we can’t we will have a grandson coming soon.
Shhh…. Don’t tell anyone.

We do have plans for another trip up into Canada and Alaska.
And yes I’ll be driving again because I love to drive. It relaxes me okay.

I think the car rental company is rethinking the unlimited mileage thing.
Snickers ~

Smiles~ life …it’s what you get. Pay attention you might miss something.
Have Fucking Fun.

Sounds like a grand adventure Mozy! I'm really happy for you, especially after the tough year you, and many of us, have endured. Nothing like a good road trip to rejuvenate the spirit. And yes, I too enjoy the driving aspect as well. Sort of a bonus when traveling cross-country to the burn. Great hearing about all of the particulars of your trip!

Yep things are tough all over.
I was in Utah in a restaurant when I got the news about Don (singer of Mozy Bonz) when he passed away.
Happened very quickly seems within a week or two of hearing that he was sick.
No whiskey bar to drown my sorrow’s in Utah.

I’ve become so numb to it. It’s coming so often it’s becoming the normal…for me.

As far as hearing about all those particulars of our trip those are just some interesting highlights I feel comfortable telling here. I’ve got four weeks of pictures and stories.

Can’t stay long…..This site seems to have a ton of let’s just say entities Trying to track you if you log into the site. I was surprised to see what some of my software reviled.

Just trying to reconnect with some people I lost somewhere along the road. They know to check for me here. If anyplace.
Have a good day.
