Update...even the cat agrees...
I wish I had a digital camera and show you this. He's hugging the boombox next to my desk and resting his head on the speaker, with the most blissed-out bliss-kitty expression on his kisser.
Yes, Kathleen Battle and Federica Von Stada, Andre Previn conducting, singing the Evening Prayer from Humperdink's Hanzel und Gretyl. Too, too sweet [sentimental tear]

PJ Harvey ~ You Said Something (live version)
On a rooftop in Brooklyn
One in the morning
Watching the lights flash
In Manhattan
I see five bridges
The empire state building
And you said something
That I've never forgotten
We lean against railings
Describing the colours
And the smells of our homelands
Acting like lovers
How did we get here?
To this point of living?
I held my breath
And you said something
And I am doing nothing wrong
Riding in your car
Your radio playing
We sing up to the eighth floor
A rooftop, in Manhattan
One in the morning
When you said something
That I've never forgotten
When you said something
That was really important
On a rooftop in Brooklyn
One in the morning
Watching the lights flash
In Manhattan
I see five bridges
The empire state building
And you said something
That I've never forgotten
We lean against railings
Describing the colours
And the smells of our homelands
Acting like lovers

A most masterful recording of Saint-Saëns' Organ Concerto, with E. Power Biggs at the organ and Yo Yo Ma on the cello. Eugene Ormandy conducting the Philadelphia Consort.
This is a great CD I got from my brother for Christmas, it also has the Bacchanale, March Militaire, Danse Macabre and Carnival of the Animals on it.

I love the Carnival. And not just because it has fish music. Most program music is kinda silly, but it was great to put on and dance to as a child.

"The Aquarium" just finished, then they did "Pianists." Unfortunately, the pianist was a little too confident and aggressive for my taste...I heard a great version where the player stumbled around and hesitated a bit, like a student (or a monkey
) messing up their scales. Yes, a very Spike Jones approach — wonder if they ever did this...?
Then "Dinosaurs," and now, the sublime, Yo Yo Ma performing "The Swan." Ahhhh, bliss
Speaking of...I'd like to do a dramatic reading of Ogden Nash's verses alongside a deejaying of the Carnival'. Anyone interested in coming in as a guest reader?

The Grizzley Bear is huge and wild
He hath devoured the infant child
The infant child is not aware
He has been eaten by the bear.
2 problems. No bear music. Grizzley might force me to step aside.
But that's the sort of doggeral we memorized in my family.
