Good morning bar-peeps. *flicks mains power, and ECM and ABB start up*. I’d love to see the wood you are cutting, ygmir. Cedar and spruce, I imagine the smell is heavenly.
HI Elorrum!
yeah, the aroma. Most evergreens smell nice.
the cedar I cut for the Hof floor, was especially aromatic. almost overpowering when I was sawing it.
you'll take in the aroma when you come visit the Hof this summer!

Ubidee ubidee ubidee, er, yeah, you got that right. I miss porky and bugs and daffy. Coffee, and I think I can rig a bacon cooker that pulpo can hold in front of a flame. Logs to fireplace in the mean time.

Littleflower just reminded me of Saturday night Dr. Demento. That got me thinking of fm radio and how amazing stereo sounded on a Saturday night, after a hit of just shitty shake from a tennis can and cake icing tip bong, out in the garage. Then scurrying through the kitchen and down the hall to the b/w second only allowed house television in my sister’s room.

*plugs in super as seen on tv fm antenna* Dr Demento? Or I was thinking maybe the stereo simulcast of abc Saturday night at the Movies… Thunderbolt and Lightfoot? Or Little Foss and Big Halsey? Redford or Eastwood?

Dr. Demento was on Sunday nights, here. I'd imagine maybe it was different in different markets?
So many good songs and ballads.
I agree, too, that the FM radio, was a treat. Back in the days of my youth, there was a lot of separation experimenting with the stereo, which was a fairly new technology, and Rock bands were trying all sorts of things.
Of course, we didn't get as good a signal or have the variety of stations that the city did, but still a few came in good enough to have that wonderful clarity and sound. My first "stereo" was from Rado Shack. Saved money from working and bought an Am/Fm/8 track, that could record tapes, as well! I really felt like I was on the cutting edge.

I lost count of how many things you just mentioned that no longer exist. :D Unfortunately I remember them as well.

Having a history of insomnia I was partial to late night AM radio with Larry King before he got famous & let us not forget Art Bell. Cost to cost America was great.

Have to say I miss those days.

My first stereo was radio shack too, 7 watts per channel. I miss those big tuning knobs so smoooth. Up till then I had a desk am radio, top 40. I listened to late night am too before it got too contentious. Art Bell! I worked late shifts with fellows who really liked him. Larry King, Michael Jackson (different one) Jim Bohannon, Sally Jesse Raphael before she got to tv. Pleasant interviews mainly, I had no tv for a long time. I stopped with talk radio about the time Rush Limbaugh was rising, and the awful dr. Laura, couldn’t take the vitriol. I wasn’t being entertained and was no longer learning anything. Tuned in to college stations and learned about all sorts of music.

Mug club is a good idea, the rebar spikes with dripping paper cups is not my favorite bar decor.

I still have my Radio Shack short wave/am/fm radio, up at the Hof. it's even convertible from 120v to 12v dc. I just need to put up a shortwave antennae. the internal one never did work well. All analog, with just an RF meter for tuning.

What is this "mug club" you speak of?

:coffee: I made an assumption. I used to work at a small business where if you drank coffee, you brought your own mug, or bought a co. Logo mug and wrote your name on it. No disposable cups, and everyone was expected to wash their mugs and not use anybody else’s. (an unachievable bar). Mug club? I love this game! Two more contestants, and then the judges guess the truthful one.

Ygmir, I’ve listened to FM broadcasts at the hof, but shortwave is fun. I like the sound, the cadence of noise, as you tune shortwave. Looks like voice of America is coming back. Reminds me of a Bob and Ray bit: an interview with the chairman of the slow talkers of America.

When I was 13, I went to the "Park and Swap".

Bought 2 speakers, 2 old tube radios, and an old turntable for a total of 5 dollars.

Went to "HiFi Sales" and bought a stereo tone arm for 8 dollars.

Installed the tone arm on the turntable.

Opened the radios up and cut the wires from the amplifiers to the tuners, and connected them to the tone arm.

Home made stereo with tone and volume control on each channel for 13 dollars!!! :D

:coffee: ECM on. The young FIGJAM, of course it started early. My Dad made a remote volume control, just a little piece of plywood with a potentiometer, so neat, with a long wire, to the back of the tv. My mother made him take it apart because it looked funky. It seemed like a dividing moment. I went with d.I.y. and “looks funky though. So what?”

:coffee: good morning. Be wary, it’s the Ides of March. “How could you, bro?” Flip Wilson was a master of the shaggy dog bad pun joke, “I didn’t come to seize her berry…”. Pulpo has blazed a few rashers of bacon. I baked some rough bread yesterday, Zuni bread, polenta and cornmeal. I may make it with cornmeal only in the future, it is pretty gritty.

Flip Wilson, indeed. Back when funny was ok, teasing in good humor was ok, people were not so easily offended...

it'd be interesting to try some "pre wheat" breads. Stuff made here before wheat was introduced to North America.
and of course, Bacon... Pulpo is doing a great job, Elorrum, thanks for bringing it onboard.

Rodney Dangererfield had some humor like that, but mostly it was self deprecating. Just imagine Don Rickles doing his humor today. He circled the entire room and knocked every ethnicity he could find with his stereotype humor and jabs. Someone listening to his routine today would be mortified that he did this. Skin seems to be getting much thinner.

I’m eating more corn tortillas, $4 a loaf of bread, 16-18 slices? I can get a whole lot more corn tortillas for less$, and they last longer.

Hi Elorrum.
yeah, I drove 600 miles home in that dang (but nice) 26' Uhaul..
Unloaded today. Ugh, not much help available...I'm "dead dog tired". But had to get the whole thing unloaded and put away before returning it tomorrow. I found a nice perk with Uhaul: you can ask for an additional day on the rental and no charge.
and, wow note the MPG reading as I was heading up a hill... At least I was able to fill up in Oregon, almost 1.50/gal. cheaper than here in PRC. But still, cost about .80/mile just in fuel...ugh.

HI GW! good to see ya. Yeah, I remember your tales of the long trip to TTITD and back. funny how driving 10-12 hours, is so tiring, though not really much in the way of physical exertion, and mostly not so stressful. I guess just sitting in one spot that long does it. Loading and unloading is a different story. I had forgotten just how much fun wrestling large mattresses is....
