While Congress has been relatively unified in calling for Russia to be punished and for the US to support Ukraine, some on the right flank of the party have adopted a different tactic. Rep. Madison Cawthorn of North Carolina faced criticism from members of the GOP after he called Zelenskyy a thug at an event with constituents.

Russia’s foreign minister, Sergei Lavrov, has praised Fox News for its coverage, appearing on the Russian state-controlled RT network to hail the right-leaning US cable channel, whose primetime host Tucker Carlson has played down the invasion.

“We know the manners and the tricks that are being used by the western countries to manipulate media, we understood long ago that there is no such thing as an independent western media,” said Lavrov, speaking in English in a studio interview on Friday.

“If you take the United States, only Fox News is trying to present some alternative point of view,” he said.

Not sure about the veracity of the casualties figure, but the Russian MoD released a video of them targeting a hospital in Syria (which they denied at the time) to demonstrate that the Iskander-M was effective after Nikol Pashinyan said it failed in Karabakh.

It is sad and bad is just about every way.

Chernobyl reactor melted down, caught fire, and discharged a huge amount of radioactive material in 1986. Many of those radioactive elements and compounds are heavy elements. They deposited out on the soil. The years of rain have caused some of those heavy metals to soak deeper and deeper into the ground.

The Russian troops were ordered to dig trenches for trench warfare around the reactor. The soldiers suffered acute radiation sickness and had to be evacuated to hospitals outside the country. They drove military vehicles through areas that workers do not even walk, producing dust which they breathed.

Ironically, the reactor was a Russian design which was cheap to build, was built, operated, and melted when Ukraine was part of the Soviet Union. It was a blow to the credibility of the Soviet Union and a contributor to its downfall.
