I remember this bar. Was everybody that walked in called Mr. Dunnahee? And sometimes he stuck his finger down in the beer 😸. Frank Fontaine had a lovely singing voice too.

Oh my! Didn’t we just have a flying monkey fuck thread about this? Did you say “appendix” three times fast without thinking? You had a run on the gut biome bank, a Keating, You suggested? Sounds like a near thing, and it went your way. I send thanks to powers that be. Please rest and recover fast.

Morning bar, I fixed the ROS for convalescent range of non activity. Coffee, gallons of it. Ygmir, rest careful.

It’s elfworks central here, with one solo bad ass elf trying to accumulate and corral sellable detritus for an upcoming flea market. Hoping for companionable feedback after a long isolation.

:coffee: Going to start the coffee and dive deep in NEB.

Will Smith had maybe the worst day and also the very best day of his life in the span of an hour. Operatic . So human. I learned again how complex we are, how self defeating and base and ugly we can be, and what a thin veneer self containment is at times of great stress. I changed over the day, fought with the need to have it be a simple thing. Now I’m just sad and hope the trauma revealed gets some healing attention, and ownership. I’m sorry I lurched in swift response to something that is so personal and none of my business. Humans, eh?

Coffees ready. ygmir, I hope you are convalescing well.

shuffles back in*
well, just out of the hospital....again....
I was rushed back in to ER Saturday with a 103 temp and listlessness/confusion.
I had turned septic (not just my personal opinions this time), and the started pumping me with morphine and very heavy IV antibiotics, around the clock, until today. I had sepsis and also pneumonia, since it also invaded my lungs.
Dang, it all happened in the 12 hours after I got home from surgery. I have to guess they missed something in the surgery part? they said "oh, this happens"...I'm not sure I totally buy that, though do know "sometimes you're just not lucky" (though I could be..)...
Don't remember much of the first 2 days, just pokes and prods and blood draws and test and cat scans, etc. etc.
I came around Monday. They said sepsis can get out of hand very fast, and indeed it did, from feeling fine Sat. morning to ER in about 3 hours.
And of course, I had to pay attention to meds and procedures, once I caught them giving me the wrong meds, because "orders had not caught up"..ugh, I questioned them thereafter on every med and IV and test. Caught a few mistakes.. ugh.
Now I have to sit quietly at home on antibiotics for another week. dang, must have been a nasty infection. I have one large blood clot in my abdomen (not in my blood system), that now needs to dissolve...I guess something leaked there, too, after surgery.
They sent me home with augmentin and Norco. I'll take all the augmentin. Save the Norco for another time if I need. I don't like taking opiates...but if it's an emergency, well.

Thanks for the well wishes previous.

Wow, glad you're back on the mend yg. Too close indeed! I've always heard that sepsis can go bad in a hurry. I know you have a tendency to tough things out, but really happy you knew when to say when in this case, and go back to the hospital.

ha, yeah, seems some people don't trust me to go to the doc, be safe, or take it easy... jeexe! sure appreciate them, though.

Elorrum: yes, a handle would be handy! And that cascade organ thing. They said it's very real, and was close. They were drawing blood, and also culturing blood every few hours initially. ugh.

Canoe: yeah, it's now starting to sink in, how close a call that was. Didn't really know much about such things, before. I mean, post op they said "watch for fever", but didn't really reference time. And, well it came on hard and fast. I hope others can learn from this, anyway. It was half way up my lungs by the time I got to ER, maybe 3 hours after I started feeling crappy. My blood O2 was in the low 80's and dropping fast.

😜 Perfect advice for the guy who asked for a “cool scar” when he had some shoulder operation? I would not take that toe shot (is it?) in Dawson, nor an appendix one! Sorry for cussing earlier, it’s an annual thing.

wow, you remember the trapezius/neck tumor surgery story! wow. yeah that's the one I did with no anesthetic, and a cool scar.

ha, GH!!! they said I could not have it, because it was infected/biohazard. I said, considering the stuff that has passed by it, that was reasonable....

Dang Elorrum.......that is such a bummer about the tickets. were you going to go? I was wondering.

Funny thing about hematomas (another result of the surgery). It's getting solid now, and in my lower pelvis, so I can feel it when I bend forward....it's about the size of a lime they said. feels like a watermellon....

Ygmir, I honestly can’t afford it, don’t think I’ll get time to go, and have tried to put it out of my mind. Still I thought if I could get a ticket I’d figure it out. This is the nature of burning man for me. It’s beyond my capability and I can’t let it go. My first ticket I got at a local sporting goods store for less than 200$, then early birds for years in the low two hundreds range. Now, pretty much fugedaboutit, but I still try. Just saw the closure map. SM turnout and Cassidy are outside the closure area.

I believe the problem is, how to qualify which Pt.s get what level of detail. Too much, and people will skip listening, not retain it, not understand it or not believe it. And doctors & nurses have given the instructions so many times, there's a danger because what they mean is obvious to them. And for some things, something simple or low-level may or may not be an urgent warning to a serious threat, but a medium level of it also may or may not necessarily be, so where do you draw the line. How do you accurately and reliably communicate a nuance. Ideally, anything that seems to fit 'the criteria' should be looked at by a professional. I forget the name of the singer/performer we lost when she had a relatively simple fall at a ski hill (Branigan?). She declined to go to the hospital, and died later that night. In the U.S., there are also losses as people hesitate to use medical resources that may cost them a lot (or bankrupt them), and so skipping care costs them a lot more, even their life.

More places are going with written instructions: highly vetted, tiered for importance & reading level, and updated promptly upon new guidance, (and have passed by legal), such that they don't pre-print them, but print them fresh so they're ensured they're handing out the latest. I went to a kidney doctor at a large regional hospital around June/July a few years ago. I had a question about a relevant & compelling study published in December. To his and his student's amusement, he handed me their latest written instructions, which had been updated to include guidance based on that study's findings.

Pregnant?
(my evil twin)

I didn't even try for a ticket. But then I can't even afford the gas to get 1/3 of the way to BRC, and that's IF prices return to 'normal'. Getting a ticket on the credit-card and selling it on, even at face value, just seems wrong. Althought there's a case for grabbing what one can, and then selling to one 'deserving' (by whatever criteria one uses).

ha! nice one.
also, yeah, instructions. There is the idea, too, of putting all the info out there, and if a person can't understand, it, they either need to ask for clarification, or, well, sorry, you lose. You can't make everything for everyone, work. I'd rather default to saying "it was on page 7, paragraph 11", than hear "you didn't tell me"....
I also agree, that the professionals often, it seems, think they are being very clear, when in fact they are not, and probably as you say, just because they've said it hundreds of times and it's second nature to them. Even one of my nurses said "doctors often say things fast, and think you got it, because they felt they were being clear", then leave, because they are busy, and you don't have time to think about what they said, and or ask for clarification. it's a tough one, for sure.
People want to take random "luck" out of things, and really, we can't. Sometimes, you're just not lucky.
I've always said "I'd rather be lucky, than good", because "lucky" will win, no matter what, but good may lose no matter how good they are.

Luck is capricious, you’d rather have it than not, but if you choose it only, you’ve lost a lot of advantage. Spring is helpful. It shows the rewards of patience, every year. Consider your Lillies ygmir? “What fine raiment, yet neither do they spin or toil.”

Medical communication is a moving game, you have to have your questions ready. MDF said it best, your personal resource to give or lose, is your attention. In a hospital, wow everyone needs it, you feel everyone who knows what you’d like to know is scooting and ducking. Difficult.
