* You’re not allowed to attack us!
* The Kremlin claims Ukraine attacked a fuel depot inside Russia and whines that unprovoked war it started is now being waged on its soil.
* Bro, that wasn't an attack, it was just a special missile operation....
* Special Bonfire Operation
* Awww... poor Russia. Who could have expected that invading another country would result in any consequences?
* Wouldn't be the first time Russia has bombed their own in order to further their agenda

Oleksandr Motuzianyk, spokesman for the Ukrainian Defense Ministry, said this at a briefing when asked whether Ukraine was involved in a fire that broke out at a fuel depot in Belgorod, Russia, according to an Ukrinform correspondent.Canoe wrote: ↑Fri Apr 01, 2022 11:00 amA top Ukrainian security official has denied accusations by Russia that Ukraine was behind an attack on an oil depot in the Russian city of Belgorod, Reuters reports. For some reason they say that we did it, but according to our information this does not correspond to reality.
"I want to emphasize that as of today the Ukrainian state is conducting a defense operation to repel Russian armed aggression on Ukrainian territory. This was a shocking thing to see today. A number of videos from Ukrainian soldiers taking back areas northwest of Kyiv show numerous bodies of Russian soldiers who were killed days or weeks ago but were never recovered by the Russian military. A serious leadership failure.
And these appear to be VDV paratroopers. It is also an indication that the Russian military probably doesn't have a great count of its casualties if it is simply leaving bodies behind.
https://twitter.com/RALee85/status/1509971837186363399Looking at the piles of dead Russian airborne soldiers left behind at Hostomel airport, minimal effort at taking care of KIAs. Bound to feed into morale issues, potentially creating health hazards.
* No body no benefits...
* Yes. Russia will claim they deserted.
* "Still Serving in the special Operation"
* If the body is not recovered it doesn't show up as KIA in the report sent to Moscow. Lack of data about failure is better for leadership (for the time being) than proof of the failure.
No room for bodies, but trucks seen full of loot going back to Russia and seen at courier offices in Russia to send back home...

TRIGGER WARNING
Ukrainian Journalist Finds Charred Remains Where Alleged War Crime Was FilmedCanoe wrote: ↑Wed Mar 30, 2022 9:30 amDoes video show Russian prisoners being shot?
https://www.bbc.com/news/60907259
Ukraine’s commitment to the laws of war is being tested by how it responds to video that appears to show its forces shooting Russian prisoners.
* On Monday, a well-known Ukrainian journalist, Yuri Butusov, published graphic video showing the charred remains of three men he identified as Russian soldiers, as Ukrainian forces recaptured the town of Malaya Rohan, outside Kharkiv, over the weekend. Although Butusov made no mention of the video of the alleged war crime, a visual analysis of his footage shows that it was clearly filmed in the same location as the video of the prisoners being shot, some time after that incident. ... his footage shows, several of the buildings at the dairy factory had been partially destroyed by explosions or fire. Those same structures had not yet been damaged when the video showing the prisoners being shot was recorded.
* On Sunday, the commander-in-chief of Ukraine’s armed forces, Lt. Gen. Valerii Zaluzhnyi, wrote on Facebook: “the enemy films and distributes staged videos showing inhuman treatment by alleged ‘Ukrainian soldiers’ of ‘Russian prisoners.’” Ukraine’s domestic intelligence agency, the SBU, a successor to the Soviet-era KGB, insisted that video of the Ukrainian military “allegedly abusing prisoners” had been fabricated by their counterparts in Russian intelligence.
* But in an interview on Sunday posted on his YouTube channel, Oleksiy Arestovych, an adviser to Zelenskyy, told the Russian opposition figure Mark Feygin: “The government is taking this very seriously, and there will be an immediate investigation. We are a European army, and we do not mistreat our prisoners. If this turns out to be real, this is absolutely unacceptable behavior.”
* A list of just some of the many transgressions of the laws of war by Russian soldiers includes killing hundreds of civilians in the widespread indiscriminate shelling of apartment buildings, schools, hospitals, opera houses, and theaters; forcibly deporting tens of thousands of residents of the besieged city of Mariupol to Russia; using cluster munitions and banned anti-personnel mines; and opening fire on peaceful protesters. Russian soldiers have also been accused recently of having raped a 15-year-old girl and filmed the crime.https://theintercept.com/2022/03/31/ukr ... me-filmed/Russian troops who took over a suburb of Kyiv are alleged to have raped and held hostage a 15-year-old girl whose mother died while she was being detained against her will, ITV News has been told. The teenager is claimed to have been held by Russian troops for 10 days close to Irpin, the heavily contested town which sits roughly 12 miles from the Ukrainian capital.
"I didn't notice how a little girl sneaked into the car through an open door," Mr Gudauskas told ITV News. "When she saw my eyes, she just said 'save me please'". The volunteer said he could not sleep for 48 hours after hearing how the teenager's mother was allegedly left to bleed to death over two days in a basement in front of her eyes. She said that she was raped by Russian soldiers, who allegedly filmed the act on a mobile phone.
"I will never forget this story," Mr Gudauskas said.

This awful picture is shared on social media with caption "a Russian girl tied up as a living shield by Ukrainian soldiers in Mariupol". (I blurred the face.)
What happened? Let's investigate.
* Ukrainian news channel gleefully shares pictures allegedly showing Roma refugees from Kyiv tied and humiliated in Lviv: "How long do you think until they will start stealing again?"
* The article 'Russia distorts photos for propaganda purposes, Roma non-profits warn Ukrainian authorities' shows the photos investigated as illustrations. According to the article, the photos show Roma in Lviv. They are allegedly purse-snatchers who were caught looting in Lviv by vigilantes and were then punished and humiliated in this awful way.
* According to @romeanews there is "a group in Lviv calling itself 'The Hunters' who prosecute Roma involved in pickpocketing". Is this group 'The Hunters' responsible for this hatred of Roma?
* The public Facebook group The Hunters came online on 23 January 2018. Even then, Zmina wrote about the phenomenon, which is part of even earlier violence against Roma in the region.
* The group's administrator, Roksolana Lisovska, posted the photos of the girl in the group on 21 March. The post contains another photo of the scene in higher quality, which may indicate that members of The Hunters were present.
* I just reported the Facebookgroup of The Hunters because it spreads violence and in this way is against the policy guidelines of Facebook. I hope they respond.

How an elite Russian paratroop unit got into Putin's invasion of Ukraine, and how the Russian KIA is leaking back in Russia through memorial notices or social media comments.
Latest "estimates" from Ukraine are over 17,000 Russian soldiers dead.Others also registered their alarm as the unit's casualties mounted "Day after day nobody knows anything. The 331st regiment is disappearing. Almost every day photos of our Kostrama boys get published. It sends shivers down my spine. What's happening. When will this end. When will people stop dying."
Ukrainian claims to have entirely wiped out the 331st regiment are an exaggeration. But we've been able to establish at the time of this recording, 39 names of soldiers from it killed in Ukraine. However, there's a delay in the release of that information of at least two weeks and locals have told us that the real figure may be closer to a hundred, which would be well above the number of people from the town of Kastroma killed in the nine-year-long Afghan War. Factoring in the badly wounded, missing and prisoners, the 331st around 1500 strong, may have suffered casualties of around one-third of its strength in a few weeks of war. A bitter learning experience for a unit once considered elite.

Retreating Russian soldiers left 13 dead civilians along a highway leading out of Kiev, with some of the bodies being booby-trapped with mines, according to reports, Daily Mail reported.
Grim eyewitness accounts on Friday suggested Moscow’s forces carried out more war crimes in Ukraine, with reports coming out of one city claiming 300 civilians were killed in the last month — as officials begin the process of recovering the dead.

Ukraine accuses Russian troops of taking children hostage and using them as human shields on their way out of Kyiv
"The enemies have been using Ukrainian children as a living shield when moving their convoys, their vehicles, according to reports by local civilians," Ukraine's defense ministry spokesperson Col. Oleksandr Motuzyanyk said during a media briefing.
He added: "Occupiers use those children as hostages as a guarantee that local civilians will not provide the enemy's coordinates to Ukrainian defenders."
Motuzyanyk said cases where children are being used as human shields have been reported in multiple provinces across the country.

Putin's growing repression is making reporting on Russia harder—on the record. Off the record is a different story. As security reporter @AndreiSoldatov told us, Russia's intel officers are so horrified by Ukraine that they're leaking more than ever.https://twitter.com/OctavianReport/stat ... 2318854144The Bear Breaks Down: Andrei Soldatov on Russia’s Self-Destruction
"When you have a guy in the Kremlin who is being absolutely delusional about the real situation in Ukraine, you can’t speak in terms of a coherent foreign policy."
* the Russian government cancelled the media license for Soldatov’s website, citing the death of its editor—the very job Soldatov held at the time. Taking the hint, he and his partner Irina Borogan fled for London.
* more people are actually coming to me and my colleagues, because there is a feeling of desperation, especially among Russian bureaucrats—including in the security services.
* My sources in the government think that Putin’s full-scale invasion was a horrible mistake.
* the FSB has penetrated the military to a huge degree.
* These days everybody is talking about how bad Russia’s army is. I would be a bit more cautious, because what we’re seeing is a huge degree of political interference. Militarily speaking, many things we are doing in Ukraine don’t make any sense. One is using the national guard. It doesn’t make any sense militarily, but it makes some sense politically. Because politically speaking, if you’re sending in your national guard, it means that it’s not a military operation, it’s a policing operation.
* There’s huge confusion inside the Russian government. To start with, the military has a longstanding habit of hiding information from Russia’s top leader. In the past, the FSB has helped fill in the gaps. But the problem is that Putin started this war by attacking his security services. He held a horrible meeting with his security council, where he publicly humiliated his chief of foreign intelligence. Two weeks later, he placed two guys from the FSB under house arrest. A few weeks later, the deputy head of the national guard, a former security services guy, was forced to resign and is now probably under some sort of criminal investigation. What all this ignores is that you cannot fix your intelligence problems with repression.
* OR: How, then, do you see the war ending?
Soldatov: Putin’s usual way out of trouble is to escalate even more. I think that people in Moldova and in the Baltics should be extremely, extremely nervous right now. I think it’s absolutely possible that he might start something there, just like he did with the Donbass as a way out of Crimea.

Putin think's he's entitled to Lèse-majesté?Ukraine: Why the cartoon Masyanya was banned in Russia
Masyanya, the mischievous and witty heroine of an animated series online, is widely popular among Russian speakers. More than a million people are subscribed to the cartoon's YouTube channel.
However, the latest episode devoted to the war in Ukraine has brought both praise and threats. Soon after the episode was published, Russian authorities banned it and asked the cartoon’s creator, Oleg Kuvaev, to remove it from his website because it "discredits the Russian Federation's armed forces".
The BBC has spoken to Oleg Kuvaev, who emigrated from Russia to Israel years ago and says "there is no way to laugh about the war".
https://www.bbc.com/news/av/world-europe-60956241Масяня. Эпизод 160. Вакидзаси [english captions seems to do really well]
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kzx_N8AJiKwMasyanya, Episode 160 Wakizashi English subs - non-monetized backup
The show's final episode is set on Feb. 24, the day that Russia invaded Ukraine, with Masyanya coming home to find her friend Lokhmaty, who is Ukrainian, has passed out drunk in her room so that he does not have to watch the news. Masyanya and her friend, Hryundel, spend the rest of the episode shielding their friend from the terrible news by making sure he stays away from the internet — while privately discussing how Putin, whom they refer to as the “mad czar” and “fuhrer,” has destroyed their country and the future of their children. Hryundel blames Putin’s tyrannical actions on the political apathy of people like Masyanya, who prefer not to discuss politics and allow men like Putin to “swell up.”

At least 280 people were buried after Russian forces were pushed out, the town’s mayor, Anatoly Fedoruk, told the AFP news agency Saturday. “All these people were shot, killed, in the back of the head,” he said, adding that one victim was as young as 14.

TRIGGER WARNING
The images I saw on Friday into Saturday, put what hit the mainstream at a severity of 3/10, if what I saw were used as 10/10 for scaling.
Many appear to have been held, by hand, at gun point, or hands bound, before being shot. Men often shirtless. One body dumped into a well. One account claimed four naked women under a cover on the side of the street. Some shot wherever they were, for no apparent reason. One phone intercept from a Russian soldier was saying that he saw two running children shot "just for fun".
Live stock killed. Horses killed. Pets killed. A dog kennel with all dogs shot.
Russians mining dead bodies. Mining homes. Even mining a "confectionery factory", was one puzzled post. Someone said that's all a normal part of the devastation Russians make when leaving an area: destroy food production - make it hard for the civilians to survive.
I don't know how many, if any, of those images will have remained on twitter when I go back to those accounts.
Too busy on Sat & Sun to do that. Taking tonight off.
This hit the mainstream news over the weekend.

Ukrainian mothers are writing their family contacts on the bodies of their children in case they get killed and the child survives. And Europe is still discussing gas.
[Photo: toddler in diapers with the contact information written on her back. Uncensored: doxes the contact information.]
* I am ashamed of our cowardice
* Eyes filling at the idea of doing this with my toddler. I cannot.
* Me too. She's 3 wks older than mine. Can't stop crying.
* Two months younger than my granddaughter and from the back could be mistaken for her.
* for me one of the saddest and most drastic pictures since the outbreak of this
* If this doesn't rip your heart out, you're not paying attention. Some of these babies survive next to the dead body of their moms. Traumatizes them for the rest of their shattered lives. This is close to impossible for adults to comprehend. Way too much. Changes lives forever.
* OMG this made me cry. I have a 2.5 year old granddaughter and I can't imagine what they are going thru.
* When my daughter was young, I wrote my phone number on her arm when we were at some sports fair in a large crowd. Seeing the same motherly instinct between life and death here is
* My son is a year younger than this sweet child. I couldn't imagine the terror the parents must feel every minute of every day.
* There was a story, a woman running for an evacuation bus with four children: hers, her dead sister’s, her dead neighbour’s, and one she found waiting next to their dead parents.

This Ukrainian soldier discovered a dead Russian having a stolen MacBook instead of a steel plate in his body armor.
So many punchlines about karma and greed come to mind…

* Unfortunately for Russian occupiers their lives cannot be restored from iCloud.
Video going around 'showing 200+ surrendered Ukrainian marines'. Comments point out many anomalies in what they're wearing, that they have a lot of energy, some are upbeat, no unit badges, some are still wearing their gear, etc., etc.. Consensus is that this needs verifying, as it appears to be "captured Ukrainian gear on some separatist forces", made for propaganda. An analysis of satellite images by The New York Times rebuts claims by Russia that the killing of civilians in Bucha, a suburb of Kyiv, occurred after its soldiers had left the town.
When images emerged over the weekend of the bodies of dead civilians lying on the streets of Bucha — some with their hands bound, some with gunshot wounds to the head — Russia’s Ministry of Defense denied responsibility. In a Telegram post on Sunday, the ministry suggested that the bodies had been recently placed on the streets after “all Russian units withdrew completely from Bucha” around March 30.
Russia claimed that the images were “another hoax” and called for an emergency U.N. Security Council meeting on what it called “provocations of Ukrainian radicals” in Bucha.
But a review of videos and satellite imagery by The Times shows that many of the civilians were killed more than three weeks ago, when Russia’s military was in control of the town.

* Jeff Cofran - Oh he get special privileges. Disgusting.
* I think the point is most Western politicians don’t fight in our wars.

And I'm done for the night. So much for attempting a catch up.It’s shocking, but still. Here’re the women raped and set on fire.[photo] This should be seen by all who wrote to me that was not true, who defend trade with, who want to protect “innocent Russians”.There’s another story of a 10-y.o. girl found dead with a torn vagina. Canoe wrote: ↑Fri Apr 01, 2022 12:23 pm* Lawmakers who claim Jan. 6 was an Antifa op are outraged that their colleague makes wild claims unsupported by evidence.... Well, it looks like the answer might be the anxiety of spouses wondering if their dearly beloveds could be one of those who may or may not have invited Cawthorn to an orgy. That’s according to CNN’s Melanie Zanona, who asked Republicans why this controversy has finally forced them to draw the line with Cawthorn:We may never know if Cawthorn’s claims were ever real. (For the record, McCarthy said that Cawthorn either exaggerated or was not telling the truth.) But let this whole episode show you that for Republicans, hell hath no fury like a spouse suddenly wondering if you’ve attended a cocaine-fueled orgy.I asked a bunch of Republicans why *this* was the thing that broke the camel’s back with Cawthorn.
Their response: the orgy & cocaine allegations implicated fellow Republicans. And some members were getting questions from concerned constituents — and spouses — about the claims. https://t.co/S2qPzk8fqD

What I saw when updating on Monday night, would take the top at 10/10, and what I'd previously seen would rate 7/10 in severity. Putting what was on mainstream news at 1 or 2 out of 10 in severity.
At the U.N., a little Freudian slip when the Russian representative said:An analysis of satellite images by The New York Times rebuts claims by Russia that the killing of civilians in Bucha, a suburb of Kyiv, occurred after its soldiers had left the town. ...

Now if you look carefully at what you see in Bucha about the corpses that lie on the street, that were never existing before the Russian troops arrived.

Blackwater is in the Donbas with the Azov Battalion.
Europe
By Manlio Dinucci, Il Manifesto, February 1, 2022
"From 1991 to 2014, according to the US Congress Research Service, the United States provided Ukraine with $ 4 billion in military assistance, plus over $ 2.5 billion after 2014. The NATO Trust Fund provided over a billion dollars in which Italy also participated. This is only a part of the military investments made by the major NATO powers in Ukraine. Great Britain, for example, has concluded various military agreements with Kyiv investing, among other things, 1.7 billion pounds in upgrading Ukraine’s naval capabilities: this program provides for the arming of Ukrainian ships with British missiles, the production of joint 8 fast missile units, the construction of naval bases on the Black Sea and also on the Azov Sea between Ukraine, Crimea, and Russia. In this context, Ukrainian military spending, which was equivalent to 3% of GDP ( Gross Domestic Product) in 2014, rose to 6% in 2022 corresponding to over 11 billion dollars.
In addition to the US-NATO military investments in Ukraine, there is the $ 10 billion investment foreseen by the plan that is being carried out by Erik Prince, founder of the US private military company Blackwater – now it is renamed Academy – which has supplied mercenaries to the CIA, the Pentagon, and the State Department for covert operations (including torture and murder), gaining billions of dollars. Erik Prince’s plan, revealed by an investigation of Time magazine, consists in creating a private army in Ukraine through a partnership between the Lancaster 6 Company, and the main CIA-controlled Ukrainian intelligence office. Through them, Prince has supplied mercenaries in the Middle East and Africa. It is not known, of course, what would be the task of the private army created in Ukraine by the founder of Blackwater certainly with CIA funding. However, it can be expected that it would conduct covert operations in Europe, Russia, and other regions from its Ukraine base."
