Well fuck me!
The economy has brought me out of retirement and since I'm starting a new job in a week I had to sell my tickets.
So for 2 people this late in the game the Playa really did provide.
The weird part is I'm not too upset about it. While the Burn is still a hoot, it's magic that held me has faded and now it really is just camping in the desert with good friends.
I think I'm in the same boat (so to speak) as Captain now.

HI Lucky!! good to seeya! how's things in The Truckee Meadows?
This heat seems tougher and tougher on my each year. ugh.
Fires are starting to pop up. So far there's a fair amount of fuel moisture, in the heavier fuels, so spread rates
have been slow and our heroic fire personnel are getting right on them.
I'm curious about the "renegade Burn" plans for this year. I hear rumblings, sounds like it might get past the previous "Dumb Burn" attempts of years past?

Hey Yg,
Things are good here. I’ve been working from home the last couple of years, which isn’t so bad. I mean if I gotta work at least I can wear jamma pants. And my dog Lou is totally spoiled
Seems like the heat is just getting started, it was hotter this time of year last year but it’s catching up quick.

@Lucky: Nice you can work from home! and dem Jammies! gotta be a grand and enticing work environment!
yeah, it was hotter, sooner, last year. I'm just whining, because any heat is too much for my liking! Past 80 and I'm not happy...this getting old and soft and sensitive is sucky!
Heading for the Hof today to oil the floors. Last step in the process, it's a floor specific oil (Woca) that will give the wood a natural and "old" look, but protect and harden the surface. Not a build up like polyurethane. Does not have the surface coating characteristics of poly, but much easier maintenance and repair. It's always a trade off...

the ORG/BLM contract and details are public, I don't know where to find them, but it's possible. As I understand it, the Renegade is outside the closure area, to the north. they'd mostly be using 12 mile or Soldier Meadows rd. as I understand.
This is not a new thing, for several years there was a group "Dumb Burningman" who tried to organize, just outside the closure. They might have had 20 ish people? They'd poke in from time to time, sorta "cat and mouse" stuff......it was fun and good natured as far as my experiences with them went.
It just looks like this time, it may have some legs. I'd say due to the "renegade" burns and increasing popularity of "4th of Juplaya". Time will tell I suppose.

Re: Re: The 2025 Burning Man Bar is open
HI CC.
a point of clarification? the "perimeter fence/trash fence" is not the edge of the closure area. it's just the edge of the event. The "closure" (leased land from BLM) extends hundreds of yards outside the "trash fence". The area between the closure borders (I believe a map may be available from the ORG pages or BLM) and the trash fence is a buffer/no go zone. LE/GPE/DPW and some other randoms, can at times trave in that area at a very high speed and in low visibility, a person is hard to spot...
The alternate camping trip, is (as I understand) a fair distance outside the closure, this year. The previous "dumb Burningman" campers were very close to the closure border, though.

Thank you Lucky!
Yes. It's a pretty good job & I think I'll really enjoy it. I had planned on getting a job after the Burn but when this opportunity came up I had to try. I didn't want to be "that guy" who gets a job and immediately asks for time off. I'll be learning a lot in the next month and didn't want to burn without putting the time in to do it right.
That & I didn't want to take out a loan to pay for gas (4,000 miles round trip).

Hi Lucky! thanks, yeah, that fire is quite a distance from me, but only about 2 miles from Marty. He's ok, it seems, the fire turned away from him, at least so far. It's a tough one with very steep terrain, so though it's laying down, it keeps flairing because they can't get equipment or planes down in the canyons.
Glad you're happy with the new gig, FlyingMonkey.

Regarding the Closure Order, below is the 2022 map. Substantially larger area than in the past, if I'm not mistaken.

I think what I have is the opposite of burn burnout. It's only early July and I'm already waking up between 5:00 and 6:00 a.m. thinking, "is it time to leave yet?"
Black Rock City has such a hold on my psyche. I don't claim to understand it fully, but it's one of the few places where I feel like I can be myself without compromise. Not that my selfness is anything so unusual, but in a lot of the rest of my life only a few parts of the Venn diagram seem to match any given situation. At BRC, I can exist in the center of the diagram pretty much all the time. YMMV.

Well fire season is ramping up. nothing super huge yet, but a few have started and gotten a few square miles before control. We've had a fairly cool summer, or at least not as hot as last year, yet. So far we've been lucky, in the one large fire at a time happens, so all air resources can be directed there, and they make a huge difference in slowing spread. They don't really put the fire out, that takes crews on the ground....but, they slow and cool it enough that they can work it. The problems will come as fuels dry further, and if/when more than one fire is going at a time. Then, as they prioritize life and property protection, the "wild land" part of the fire does not get so much attention.
Fire insurance here, is horridly expensive, too, in my rural county anyway.
On a happier note, I did get the new floor put in the Hof: incense cedar, that I knew when it was a tree. It was on the neighbors property, leaning over their house, so we fell it, then I milled and dried it, and installed. Sorta neat concept, well for me anyway. 1.25" thick on 12" spans.

Wow, Yggy, that floor is beautiful! I fondly remember when we all helped with the stone floor. I hope to be able, one day, to get back and see the Hof again, now that the outside stone walls and the new floor are done. Hi Patsh! Yeah, what a day, everyone making an assebly line carrying the granite in, IIRC, Elorrum and someone else was placing it with me. What kindness of all to help with that! It took a lot longer to take out, I can tell you!
I too hope you can come visit again one day! Those were some fun times.

Re: Re: The 2025 Burning Man Bar is open
Ah, hof days! Iirc I was simply a hod carrier, tried to advocate for a pass along hand to hand, but everyone wanted to walk each heavy piece by themselves through the door bottleneck. (At this point in a collaborative project I look for the thing that no one is doing.) The marble floor was great, did you want something warmer? I bet the cedar is just beautiful. Pictures look great. Super boom box also. I look forward to seeing it one day. Patsh? Ride along?
I just listened to Bob and Ray, (“the clutching hand”) every Saturday KFJC streaming , 10:00 am.

and, I'm making a second "boom box" today, in fact. Got another car stereo and speakers, so just putting it all together. I like the one at the Hof there, but it's nice to have one for work sites and such. and making them from wood I milled, so I can use them as a step stool, or work space, as well.
