Cameras on the Playa

Post by 5DLightworker » Mon Jul 18, 2022 10:44 am

Hello!

This will be my first year camping on the playa and I am trying to figure out how to best prepare my cameras.
I am planning to take both digital and film cameras. I've got the charging situation figured out for the digital cameras and the cooler situation for the film, but I'm wondering about the day -to-day use of cameras.

I will of course have sealable plastic bags to keep them in when not using them, but I have concerns about heat, security, and general dust.

I have of course heard much about the playa dust and wind, but not sure if this is always an issue or if there are times when a camera can be used with no fear of dust. Does it always need to be bagged?

In terms of heat and security, where do people leave their cameras when not in use? I will have a (hot) car and a (hot) tent. I am part of a camp so can ask them, but in the spirit of radical self reliance, I am trying not to ask to many questions of them, and thought that this forum might be a better place to connect with other photographer types. My concerns about heat are generally about camera batteries and interior components like foam that can disintegrate with extreme heat. Not sure if I should be concerned about this stuff however.

Any and all advice appreciated!

Thank you! I look forward to meeting everyone in BRC soon.

abundant blessings,
Lisa

Take a look at this thread and listen to what Eric had to say. viewtopic.php?f=3&t=73192&p=1063025&hil ... c#p1063025
It's old but still true.
Everyone is so politically fucked up that they're segregating themselves in the name of equal rights and liberation.
