I live in Vancouver and Im a pretty chilled 38 year old entrepreneur who enjoys volunteering. I am looking to join a camp in BM which has a sense of community: cooking, evets, etc. I am really active so I am willing to support the camp as much as possible. This is my first burn though.
As a background I have lived in London, Vienna, Paris, Tokyo, Mexico City and Florence. Im pretty much a world citizen and I love meting people!

Elorrum is too kind.
I’m a tell it to you straight.
WTF took you so long to start looking!?!?
Now, with that out of the way, and you being waaaaay late …
Be prepared to find a spot in open camping and go at it alone. It’s actually not that bad doing your first burn that way. No commitments, your timetable, no silly shifts to do someone else’s Mac and cheese dishes.
Bet you a fuzzy drink you make friends and a future camp setup in the first two days.
Good luck you suave international traveler.

Re: Birgin Burner camp needed- also want to get involved and volunteer
I know it sucks doing this late but in my case I am looking for a camp because I recently moved from the UK to Vancouver in Canada and I have had a though year meeting people and feel lonely, people here are not very open and friendly as in London or the US in general, I am a very social person and enjoy the sense of community that camps bring to Burning Man and participating/ organizing activities as well. While camping solo sounds interesting that is not the right option for me at this specific moment.

You say you’ve never been, so you don’t know how friendly it is everywhere. In a camp, outside a camp, waiting for the toilets even. What it is not is a supermarket where you can ask direction to what you want ten minutes before closing. You need to have what you need to survive a week in the desert. Trust me, you’ll have no problem finding people to hang with. You can engage, say “see ya later” and engage elsewhere, in a minute, like speed dating! People setting up camps are on their way there right now. They’ve stopped recruiting, I’m afraid.
Here’s an idea for a volunteer opportunity:
“GOOD MORNING (POTENTIAL) DPW! I am Starfish, one of your friendly neighborhood Fluffers!
Have you ever wanted to try DPW but couldn't make it pre season? Have you ever wondered what Burning Man is like behind the scenes? Do you want a free shower and meal at commissary? And do you want to do Burning Man in a fleet vehicle so everyone knows you are one of the coolest kids in town?
DPW Fluffers are looking for a few good humans to volunteer during event week! Fluffing is the best job on Playa. You help keep the folks who build the city hydrated, fed, and happy. Everyone loves you and constantly tell you so. You get to cruise around the city in a janky truck yelling "cars are real!" at participants. And while you are out fluffing, you get to play as well. Want to see art? Take on the Man route. Want to have a food tour? Utility Village may be your jam. We get thru our work as fast as we can and then use the rest of the time to go to Burning Man in a way few people ever do.
If this sounds like your idea of an awesome time (because it is), stop by the Floffice right across from Commissary in the DPW Ghetto (that big area enclosed with black tarps) at 5:30 and F and talk to Mile High or Crowbar. Come early to get a good shift and become an honorary DPW for the day. Don't be scared, DPW is much nicer than you've been told!”
Also lamplighters usually recruits on playa. READ the main site, take suggestions about where to volunteer if you really need structure.
