A long time ago I fell in love with the love of my life.

They were a visual artist, writer, and musician. Their art is in my collection. They had two private written languages filling years of journals. When they were in high school, they got the standard IQ test. Their parents were informed the results were the highest the district had recorded. It was in a middle class to upper middle class school district. They learned about it later. Before I met them, they had been hospitalized for a break. We spent a lot of time talking about the spirit of specific trees. They had a large group of followers surrounding belief in the existence of the Jupiterians, a utopian society beyond earth.

It broke my heart to not continue that relationship forever. They are healthy now, have a high level job, a family, and have done excellent playa art projects.

But I learned I could not be responsible for an intimate partner's mental health. And I learned there is a multidimensional array of evaluation of good mental health. I could say, you are off, you need to consult with a professional. I could not be the professional.

That broke my heart. It was a lesson in life.
