Yohhei Sato made home in Portland. He was a joyful person, leading camping trips from overnight after work, with everyone returning exhausted the next morning for work, to every kind of water and mountain campout, costumed campouts, halloween group costumes, singing and playing guitar. He was in the bike community, with bike theater.

He sharpened knives in Portland's noted kitchens and in bars, cafes and at music venues. He sharpened axes, hatchets, and swords too, all using traditional Japanese water stones. He was always accompanied by his loyal and loving doggo Sparky. He was a bundle of happiness and enthusiasm.

Someone (not me) wrote about him coming to their restaurant kitchen and sharpening the knives of all the kitchen staff:

"As he was elegantly stroking the blades against the whetstone, he began recounting the entire plot of the amazing movie he had watched the night before: Surf Ninjas.

He genuinely loved that movie! He retold the story with such vigor and enthusiasm, it was hard to not get caught up in it. He did voices and re-enacted action sequences, it was great! All the cooks were hanging on his every word.

We laughed, we cried, and by the end of it, we had sharp knives."

I don't know if he ever participated in the burn, but he lived it every day.

I lost a friend this week. The friend who brought me to Burning Man, who named me Actiongrl. We were in a band together, and he was a bright light in this world.

I am in shock and I wanted to commemorate him here, and spread the word in case there are others who knew him. He was found dead in his home, and the cause is unknown.

RIP Thomas Richard Morgan

RIP too, his girlfriend, Rebecca Gaines, also found dead.

I'm so sorry for your loss, actiongrl. Submit their names to JRS for the Remembrance Plaque, and next year they will be listed among burners lost this year. The plaque is placed on the Man Base. I did that for my Bull Bunny, RIP 1/12/18.... my Bun. I can't burn without him.

RIP J.B.
Sighs ~
The loss of my oldest friend.
His dad and my dad were best friends from elementary school and for a life time after.

So since we were babies we were always around each other growing up. We were family. In eighth grade he and his family moved in next door and lived there all though high school until all of us kids moved out and got married.

As early as I can remember we went fly fishing/fishing with our dads.
We also went fly fishing together in high school and tied fly’s together we learned from our dads. We took lots of girls up swimming in those same rivers. Smiles ~

We pulled sleds down snowy mountain roads on a rope behind his dads VW!
Almost killed his brother doing that…. He went off a cliff once but he held onto the rope/sled and popped back up onto the road before we could get the car stopped. That would’ve been hard to explain to his mom and dad.

We water skied before school in the mornings with our friend Patrick just as the sun came up. Even in the winter with wet suits. The water was like glass. Thanks Patrick.

We ran around in high school chasing girls, shooting guns, waterskiing, spear fishing with sharks, riding dirt bikes, getting in trouble street racing...

I was in the truck when he had his first car accident. …two days after he first received his first license.

Laughs
“”Parked cars you’re in my way….””

He worked at a Kawasaki motorcycle, gun, and boat shop…walking distance down the street from our houses. We had lots of laughs and played with lots of big boy toys from that shop.

We flung a lot of lead down range because of it.
Firearms …they can be fun.
We could try anything in the gun shop with an endless supply of Ammo. It was nothing for us to go out and shoot off a thousand rounds.

Smiles ~
Hey man we had keys to the place!!
As long as we paid for the parts, ammunition and the things we broke ..we were good. Only one person ever got shot and he lived.
….Or was that two people?????….
Anyway….

We took the very first Kawasaki 440 jet ski out to the lake back then. No one had ever even seen one before that. But we had one.

He would hook me up with parts and use of the motorcycle shop when I was street racing the drag bike. I ran green helicopter Aviation fuel spiked with nitro Blendzall oil we had at the shop. I also ran an alcohol vapor injection system on the bike. (Both Fuels at the same time)
No one did this stuff back then.
That’s one of the reasons the bike was such a street beast.
Thanks JB

I bought my bike from the shop and I still have the bike today.
We Ruled the streets at the time.
Street cars had no chance. They eventually stopped racing me.

He was my best man at my wedding.

I was with him the first time he met his first wife.
I was his best man at his first of four weddings. (Shakes head) he just couldn’t stop chasing women.
Well I guess he did …with the last one …he switched teams.
I just recently found that one out. Yea none of us saw that one coming.

I haven’t seen him in more than 30 years. But I had heard that he had developed a meth problem and was in and out of rehab, jail and marriages.

Girls fell all over him in high school. He was a tall Basketball star. He had the really cool custom tricked out truck. He had a great job with lots of money. Great hair. Well liked by everyone. He had everything going for him. He had small sticker on his truck that said “” I may be slow but I’m ahead of you”” and he was …he was ahead of everyone.

But when you live on that top edge for so long you can fall a very long way down to the bottom.

He just fell so far down that meth hole and couldn’t find his way out.
That sad story we all hear about way to often.

But.. He is not dead yet…
well …he might as well be. I can’t help him or even go see him. I can’t even say goodbye to him. That makes me sad.
Recently I have received some info on him.

From what I understand….after the last rehab… He had a relapse with Meth then had a stroke. With what little info I can get… he is in assisted living facility and it sounds like he’s pretty much a vegetable now…. The zombie body just doesn’t know it’s dead yet.

His spouse(husband)and son won’t let anyone see him. Not even his sister.

I feel like he is going to pass away soon. If not already. Unlikely I will hear anything about the funeral or when he does actually die.

I only found out about him now because another friend contacted his sister looking to make contact with him for a small reunion.

It was a reunion of mutual friends we had with people from high school. Some people I hadn’t seen in about 45 years.

Not many of us left. And the ones who are…. Well I guess we are all getting old.

For me… Forward is the only direction.

So I say goodbye here and now today J.B. on this thread.

We had tons fun together my friend.
It’s a wonder we didn’t die back then. Came very close a few times.
Thanks for being my best friend.
Peace be with you my friend.
Love you brother.

My losses are up to about 80 people now.

Sighs ~ who’s next?
Step up. Is it you?

2022 BIPOC artist of Facing the Fearbeast has passed into the realm of no fear.

@tigrebailando
It is with deep sadness that we have to announce that on the night of October 1, 2022, beloved Santa Fe artist and community activist Tigre Mashaal-Lively (Jami Lewis Marshall-Lively) left this world of their own volition to travel to the next realm of their being.

Tigre dedicated their life to the joyful pursuit of dance, artistic creation, unabashed self expression and social justice.

This brings up a well of grief for the loss of such a cherished and bright light that shone as only Tigre could. We are asking everyone to join us in holding this event with grace, forgiveness, and absolute trust in Tigre’s Spirit.

Tigre leaves behind their mother Linda Marshall, their father Donald Lively, their partner Jhana Goldenflame, their cat IshqAllah, their family and community in Santa Fe as well as the uncountable friends and loved ones all over the world.

The memorial service will take place in Santa Fe at the Rivera Funeral Home this Friday Oct 7th at 10am. The service will take place in the chapel and is open to all. There will be a reception to follow that day. Additional gatherings in Santa Fe will also occur on Saturday and Sunday, details to follow.

Donations to support Tigre’s legacy can be made to Make Love Visible and Earthseed Black Arts Alliance. Links in bio.

Rest in Peace, Nancy Chappell. She was a very hard worker; she made it look easy. I struggled to do a portion of what she managed, even when she didn't feel well. I never heard her complain, or gossip. She had a ready laugh, and always smiled and said hello.

cleared for flight,
Take wing, it's the day,
We'll miss you down here,
Beloved Jaye.

Your smile and laugh,
a patient grin,
you taught us to love
To hold up our chin

A piece of us take
While crossing the sea
The distant shore reach
And peace, with you be.
