Hi all,
48/M in Southern California here and hoping 2023 will be my first time. I don't think I could make it through the whole week..I can see myself flying into Reno, renting a car and meeting up with someone who already has a camp. I'd probably bring a friend or family remember, because a big 6'4 white guy traveling solo would creep people out.
This is my thought process so far. Feel free to tell where where my thinking is wrong/right/needs work.

Welcome to ePlaya. We hope you make it in 2023.
There are several https://regionals.burningman.org/ in your area. You can meet the in real life. Usually there are post-burn "decompression" parties, burner-influenced NYE, and pre-burn "precompression" parties, and often solar holiday events. There is probably a branch of the Cacophony Society with a lot of burner crossover, and Santacon.
You can camp solo or make your own small camp. You might meet a camp through your regional, or through your personal network.
Make a packing list.
The dust is the consistency of baby powder and you can see all the white outs when the wind blows. It is very tough on rental cars, a personal car, or RVs. So you have to find a rental company which can deal with it. There are playaproofing threads and RV tips and tricks threads on ePlaya.
If you can travel lightly, and your camp is already hauling in the camp in a truck, the bus is an option, the Burner x Bus - BxB, and they actually have a playa airline - BxA. Getting your bicycle in and out takes some arranging.
It takes a long time to drive out, so if you can leave late Monday or early Tuesday that can minimize delays. Some people do some camping to and from the event.
It is never too early to work on costumes/outfits.

Generally speaking, if you're not acting creepy then you won't creep people out at burning man. Burners of all people tend to not judge based on appearances.scott2trott wrote: ↑Sun Sep 04, 2022 7:59 pma big 6'4 white guy traveling solo would creep people out.

What do you feel you need provided for you upon arrival that you aren't going to be able to provide for yourself?
