Re: Politics, Everyday, All day... morning, noon and night....II
Robert Reich was the secretary of labor in the first part of the Clinton administration. The Clintons came in with a progressive and compassionate vision shaped by Rabbi Michael Lerner. It is what "liberalism" could be before it was twisted into a Republican boogyman. Reich's book Work of Nations is worth a read for a framework of labor policy. Then the Clintons shifted to triangulation and Bill's inability to keep his pants zipped was caught.
Reich had this editorial today. There are 212 Democrats and 222 Republicans, 218 needed to be elected speaker. Of the republicans, there are about 20 Freedom Caucus members and 40 Republican Conference Group - moderates. The Freedom Caucus descended from the Tea Party and includes MTG, Matt - I like them young - Gaetz, and Jim - I didn't know about the underage gay abuse I knew about - Jordan, and Lauren - my husband didn't expose himself in public - Boebert, all "the election was stolen," and all Putin supporters on Ukraine.
Reich proposes the 212 Dems team with the 40 Tuesday group to elect a moderate speaker from the Tuesday group. That of course would be without the ridiculous concessions McCarthy making to the Freedom Caucus.

Posting an article I know absolutely no one will read but it will serve my smug sanctimonious ego:
While the liberals run around acting like the growing movement of American fascism isn’t a direct result of neo-liberal policy
“First elected in 1982, Kaptur became the longest-serving woman in the US House of Representatives in 2018… Throughout that time, Kaptur has urged her party – especially leadership, which has often been dominated by lawmakers from the coasts – to wake up to the plight of “industrial and agricultural America,” not only for the survival of the party, but also for democracy.
In an interview with CNN late last year, Kaptur recalled approaching a “very high-ranking member of the House” and warning that the federal government needed to invest in the middle of the country. “We are going to have political unrest. I even used a stronger word. I said even perhaps fascism,” she said.”
The Dems abandoned labor for Wall Street interests. Now we just blame Republicans for everything wrong with the USSA. Easy peasy!

Yes, of course. Robert Reich is always a good read for an alternative, and AOC is good at framing. FOXNews sowing paranoia is a major force while the modern robber barons are picking your pocket.
Neoliberalism is Republican Party policy. Clinton's China MFN policy, long urged by Republicans, opened the door to our problems which I doubt we can recover from. Walmart was built on Chinese imports. Coincidence the Clintons and Walmart started in Arkansas?
Republicans argue against a US industrial policy. The only industrial policy we have is weapons contractors, supporting the financial manipulation wealth-concentration industry, and big ag land concentration. To make a fighter aircraft, you need screws. To make screws you need a screw-making machine. The joke is we don't even make screw-making machines. Our military chip supply is contaminated by Chinese counterfeits.
China not only has an industrial policy in its 5 year plans which are actually enforced, though with cheating around the edge, but their manufacturing is supported by government monetary policy. They pursued a massive and successful employment first policy and an exports first policy. Now they are pursuing a no key imports policy. No energy equipment imports, no tech imports, no jet engine imports, no software imports. We export low labor content grain and hogs, and the EU exports luxury goods to them.
Where they are going is complete Chinese control of primary metals, tech, and energy. There is not going to be a world government by the UN, it will be the CCP. Better teach your kids Mandarin. If you think you can get them off TikTok, good luck!

"Thirteen votes, each one a flaying, until only his haircut remained. He offered them everything. They took it. Fourteen votes. And at the fifteenth, with all of it given away, he did prevail. Seize the mallet. Lick the battery. And lo there were groans and grunts and celebrations in the chamber, like unto a carnality of trolls, for in victory his utter defeat had been purely and completely and in its totality consummated."

The FBI tip line that was set up is referred to as “a graveyard”, with 4,500 tips sent straight to the White House rather than being investigated. It’s referred to as another “cover-up”.

With the recent revelations that not only Biden but Pence as well has “discovered” classified materials “mistakenly” transferred to his private residence it makes one wonder what would be found if all lifetime politicians closets and garages were searched. How many classified documents and national secrets are floating around in the homes of the geriatric and senile current and ex-congress members and the rest of the “political elite”?
What would happen to me or you if we were found to be illegally in possession of classified U.S. government intelligence?

Veterans of the Obama-era debt ceiling standoff on the current one: We may be doomed
Financial experts and political operatives experiencing debt ceiling déjà vu fear this time around, the ending could be catastrophic.
"“It feels like there’s a desire to get closer and closer to the brink. At a certain point, you don’t know where the line is.”" - Obama aide on 2023
"“I wish I could look at this, having been through a bunch of these, and say there’s going to be a bunch of drama but this is how it gets resolved. But I don’t know how this gets resolved." “ - Boehner aide on 2023

"For 40 years the Republican Party offered a vision of America as a land of hyperindividualism, in which any government intervention in the economy was seen hampering the accumulation of wealth and thus as an attack on individual liberty. The government stopped working for ordinary Americans, and perhaps not surprisingly, many of them have stopped supporting it. Biden refused to engage with the Republicans on the terms of their cultural wars and has instead reclaimed the idea that government can actually work for the good of all by keeping the economic playing field level for everyone."

"But the issue has never been about the documents themselves, although it is a problem that any of the former officials have documents marked classified. The issue was that NARA repeatedly asked Trump to produce documents it knew he had, and that he repeatedly refused even after being subpoenaed. Finally, the Department of Justice felt obliged to get a court order to search his property, and even now his lawyers refuse to sign off on paperwork saying he has turned in all the documents he stole. In contrast, Biden and Pence apparently did not know they had any documents with classified markings, alerted NARA as soon as they realized it, and have cooperated with authorities.
The cases are not the same.
For a long time now, the right wing has muddied the political waters by creating such confusion over things that should be clear—flooding the zone with sh*t, as Trump advisor Stephen Bannon put it—that people can’t figure out what is really going on. "

Legislation is said to be like sausage making, you don't want to know what went into it because it may make you sick.
The Hastert/Boehner Rule was you don't introduce anything that doesn't have enough votes to pass. Pelosi was the same. To do that you exercise control through the committee chairpersons.
The McCarthy Rule, he agreed to,, is anyone can introduce anything at any step in the process. That is already resulting in embarrassment of proposals from the Freedom Caucus.
"McCarthy must walk a tightrope between appeasing the renegade factions of his caucus and disassociating the party from [their] policy proposals..."
With the Republican party shifting right, members are trying to out compete each other on drama, and extreme proposals. It's all upside for individual members to introduce weird proposals. It is also a recipe to divide the country based on legislative targeting of groups with marginal poser.

I had to snope check this, holy merde. Truth. “The FHSAA's Board of Directors is set to render a decision on the proposal in February. In late January 2023, the Florida High School Athletics Association's (FHSAA) sports medicine advisory committee reiterated a recommendation that, if implemented, would make it mandatory for student athletes to submit their menstrual period information to their schools.”
As of this writing, however, it was only a recommendation, and no mandate yet exists.
What will they do with their ammenhorreic girls, like some long distance runners, or girls struggling with eating disorders? Demand chromosome counts? Some women start after they’ve been in high school already. What an awful thing to require. I hope somebody comes to their senses in February when they make a decision on this. Crazy crazy phobic shit stirring. Nothing else going on in the world any more important than this? Florida?
