Good morning Lucky, ygmir. Nice Sun and lack of water from sky, makes activity more likely here. I enjoyed my walk to see Killbuck’s work yesterday. He gave a very nice talk. A sideshow explaining sideshow banners, and sideshows. Very entertaining. Fitting it’s what lured me out of my warm nest, a hawker. “Come see the amazing…!”

WR is in a celebrated season, all terrain as well. I needed some claws at times yesterday for the icy patches. I’m going to forage today on a destination walk to the grocery store. Fresh bread has been a nice diversion, but I’m feeling a bit doughy myself.

Hi gang.
Killbuck is always entertaining, good for you Elorrum! Love his banners and such.
Hi FJ!
we're looking at sunny mild weather for the week, so a chance to get outside work done and all, after all the rain.
Some friends from Oz have been visiting for the last few days. The took a road trip down into Mexico/Baja for the last month in their TTITD RV, which I store here. Sounds like a grand time down there. Interesting to hear their perspectives and experiences, as Australians, travelling through the U.S. and Mx in a nice, but old, RV.

wow, sorta quiet, in here these days.
Probably just as well, good spot to contemplate life...
I"m in a surreal spot sort of, not quite sure where to land:
A friend and very long time burner, and camp mate, has decided to end his life. He has advancing brain, lung and liver cancer, with no hope, and backsliding every day.
I get it.
And yet, the strange conversation of "well, I'm done. I'm still sharp witted but feel life ebbing fast, and faced with pain and lingering, I'm choosing to check out" . He has counseled with an "end of life" doctor, and has ordered the drugs. He says he'll decide when it'll happen and maybe give some folks a "heads up, it's tomorrow", sort of email.
I'm sad to see him go. I'm proud he has the strength to make the call. He'll save much agony, stress on others, and yes (sad as it is), money spent on things that won't matter, for long, anyway.
But still, it's surreal, to have a conversation, he's sharp and witty, seems fine, maybe a little thinner than before, not not particularly unhealthy in appearance. Then, to think in the coming weeks, he'll sit down and chug back a few capsules of something, maybe with his favorite beverage, and just stop.

That is sad news, (((((ygmir))))). Your friend has agency to decide and the ability still to steer his own ship still. I wish for him a graceful transition, something I wish for everyone.

I know the ENECM is ever fresh and hot, but let me make a fresh pot of coffee for you. There’s hot soup on the fire for whenever you’d like.

I think from my end of of this, more surreal than tough. Just the whole "well, one day I'll just take the pill and check out, seeya". In the context of this person and their life.

"wtf brain, knock it off"..........indeed. I mean in my business, it's a constant...but we're all getting older, and friends drop here and there, more often than in the past. At a point, it's more like we're just in the queue, but don't know how far from the gate.

seems winter shut off. we had big rain and snow for a month or so, but lately warm and sunny. Might be like last year, where we got our whole winters precipitation in a month, then not much of anything. sigh.

On a different note:
I am checking into building an small house for myself, on the back of my property. I don't need this much room, and could then make an affordable rental for others.
Our county, and state, claim to be promoting such an idea and action.
And yet, (sparing boring details), they want 35K before a shovel of dirt is turned.
I'm sure, more "upgrades, requirements, and fees" would be forthcoming, since the 35K was just permits, fees and a ridiculous driveway upgrade requirement.
That is more money than the framing/weather tight package material will cost.

Testify Cousin!

Great idea wrapped in ungodly red tape and endless greed.

This is why I just got a nice 10x20 shed from the Mennonites down the Highway, then spent a couple grand to finish off the interior.

I put a 50 gallon fish tank in there and it’s my official tilapia hatchery - wink - wink.

As long as it’s for my livestock, they can kiss my ass.

Fucking permits are just off the charts expensive.

Because regular folk who obey laws are the low hanging fruit of government money collection. The big bucks are difficult captures.

Have you considered stripping a dual wide mobile home down to its frame/trailer, building all new on that platform and calling it a renovation?

the issue is the permits and requirements.
It'd still be "new construction", even just moving a mobile home on site.
the county has a rule, you can't live in a temporary structure/rv, for more than 90 days per year, unless you have an active building permit, and are actively working on said project.

Happy beheading day.

St. Valentine was arrested after he defied an order by Emperor Claudius that forbade Roman soldiers from getting married.

St. Valentine was later beheaded for his religious zeal, a death that Roman men decided to celebrate by pulling the names of eligible young ladies out of an urn.

So there's that.

:coffee: Oh my, snow. How’s it in Grass Valley, ygmir? Looks like a better snow pack than in years past. I shoveled off my outdoor stairs and landing with the nearest thing I have to a snow shovel: a thick plastic cutting board. I looked at shovels in the window of the hardware store yesterday as I walked past, with a hint of “maybe it’s time” but kept walking. We got about 6-7 inches early this morning, but getting some good sun and melt at the moment. Coffee is good and hot, and I’ll be making chicken soup later. MDF sent me a bag of semolina flour to expand my bread making repetoire. I may try a new recipe.

Stores in my part of the country are putting shovels and snow blowers on clearance sales. We normally have brutal winters here in the northeast, but this year we had about 5" of snow total. It's not over yet, but it's looking pretty good at this point.

We have had less than 1/4" of snow here in Va. this year. I will be mowing the lawns in a week or so. I like it hot, so this pleases me. I am an equator kind of guy.

HI gang (note War Rabbit™t enjoying carrots)
just got to town after 12 days of no power, no internet, sketchy cell service, trees broken and uprooted across the road, etc.......we got a total of 4' of snow ( a big snow for us is 18", for the last few decades...), so it's been a challenge. I had to shovel two of my roofs, several times, for fear of collapse. Several buildings and structures in the area have collapsed over the last few days, and now they are predicting very warm, heavy rain...look out lowlands!
We're hoping to have power back in the next few days, not sure about internet....
I'll be back as possible over the coming days and weeks (hope on weeks).
