well, my friend has set the date for this Wed. to "check out".
He has his EOL drugs from the doc.
His brain cancer is spreading fast, he's now deaf and only partial sight in one eye.
He got hold of me to say "good bye" and I was able to tell him my thoughts, and say goodbye.
The knowing is so weird, so ironic, so "not real".... How, do you sit in your chair, smile at your loved ones and "take the pills"...?... I mean, I get that it's a good way, and timing of choice and not lingering........but so surreal... ugh

Yiggie, I agree that it's surreal. I am so sorry that this is happening like this for him and his family. Life can be so unfair sometimes.

We have been so conditioned to believe "Life at all cost" that any other choice seem surreal.

You have my condolences.

Hi gang!
My kind neighbor has a wifi extender, so, is letting my piggyback off his internet.
this lame fiber company we have, hooked his back up (yay him), but said they were going home, so would not hook mine up...and when I asked if they'd be back tomorrow, they said "no, maybe someone will come by in a week or so". Ugh. I'm sure they are resting on the fact they are the only game in town, as far as real high speed. Starlink has a waiting list in this area...
Some friends made it up to the Hof the other day and sent me some photos. Wish I had a snow machine!
No one has seen that lake freeze over, and those guys have been snowmobiling up there for decades.

Hi BVB. I was wearing a knit cap 2 days ago, walked in a t-shirt today high 80’s. Say what you will about cold weather, I enjoy it for walking.

Best of luck to ticket lottery people.

Yep Elorrum, same kinds of fluctuations most winter/spring seasons here too, though this year it has been very mild, other than a hard cold snap early.

Definitely better for hiking when it's cool, or almost cold out even. In fact, now is an almost ideal time, now that things are beginning to green up, but still not many bothersome insects, nor their arachnid kinfolk running about.

Yesterday was a big day for W.R. of course.
Who has a chocolate and big dinner/food hangover? I know I do..

Looks like spring has sprung around here, all the plants that survived Snowmageddon, seem to be in high gear to sprout and bloom. and, "yay allergies", for those of us with hay fever...

Lots of buds on trees here ready to bust out. Clear sky today. I’m sitting out the main sale and hope it works out best for those who need to make the rendezvous. I’m learning about the wow much older than we thought archaeology in Turkey of a huge site occupied transitorily by hunter gatherers. They hung out and took the time to build. Seemed very familiar to me. There is a need to gather with some regularity and have a blast together.

yeah, spring is springing!

I agree, humans (most) are pack and social animals. Gathering and fun are necessary, interactions and stress relief, go along.
I think with gatherings, there are benchmark numbers, that change them.
Initially, a few friends do a thing, and it's super fun, and stays like that for a time. The original group are very much on the same page about most things and activities.
But, each friend has a friend, who they'd like to include. The next level participants, are still very much in the same boat as the originals, but just a little less invested. They also have other friends...
The original intent eventually dilutes and is mostly forgotten. Societites "ticks" show up in greater numbers as this all involves, just there to take and consume, with minimal if any contribution.
The originals stop showing up, or "move on", and it's left to the scavengers, beetles and maggots to clean the bones.

the only way to avoid that, is to limit participants and create and "exclusive" group. And, well, "inclusion" is not and can not, be a thing.

Human nature does not change, in the large picture. IMHO.

Numbers do change the dynamic especially if there are no loose agreed upon expectations for new people. Scavengers and parasites don’t need to be able or know how, and get the same benefit. One must carion, I guess. 😜 I’m going to the town hall this weekend and see if there’s a project that interests me to maybe help with, no expectations beyond that. That is something that used to be fun. I’m not paying membership for the generator, so I’m looking for an experience outside of that commitment. Some fun folks to hang with and build with.

Hi yg! Yep, spring is in full force here too. Seems like perhaps a little less rain than usual though. Haven't really looked it up, just a general sense, and going by the fact that usually at this point I'd be watching for windows of opportunity to cut the grass when it's dry. Not the case so far this year. We'll see how it plays out.

Great to see all of the fresh, bright green color all around though.
