Good morning. Spring just started.
Re: Re: The 2025 Burning Man Bar is open
Strolls in..looks around..
Is it already May?? Wow this year is spinning fast! Ygmir, I wasn't ignoring your post about the meet and greet, I actually did attend a few years ago, but I guess I was to early. sighs
I have met maryanimal (great person), Rhino, and a few others. Right now, I'm a caregiver for 3 family members and don't post as often as I'd like. This group gives me time to zone into something enjoyable.
Thanks for your reply as well as Von Braun, everyone (ok most) is enjoyable!

Hi mmsj2u! no worries, glad you made it to the MnG!
HI Lucky!! yeah spring... I was 90 here two days ago, chilly and rain with snow over the mountains today.
The pollen/hay fever is intense this year, well at least for me, but others are complaining, too. I guess the late weather and cool spring, have delayed many blooms.
Reports of 4' of snow still on the roads to the Hof, might be late May before getting there!

Cannonball! Into NEB with long coffee straw into refillable reservoir, big hot gulp.
Wind yesterday, rain last night. Looking like more showers today.
Slow changing weird weather. When will plants be able to grow? It’s not just a matter of when to take a jacket, or not.

spring indeed!
Hi Lucky! Hi Elorrum, Hi Flyingmonkey!
yeah, we got some good rain showers yesterday and last night, looks like off and on all week.
I tried a weed burner yesterday, as opposed to an herbicide. I don't hold out much hope for it's effectiveness, but I followed my landscaper friends advise, and just wilted the weeds, instead of actually burning them. He said burning does something and the plant reacts and preserves itself and resprouts, where wilting doesn't trigger that response and they just die. We'll see, I guess. Though, walking around with a flame thrower is pretty fun! and since it was sprinkling, no real fear of conflagration.

All purpose seasoning, of course, everything is better with fire. I applaud your non-chemical approach, ygmir, and if it is fun, then so much the better! It is interesting and makes me curious to study it further, the mechanisms, and differences, between lethal wilt, and actual combustion. So many plants do recover after a forest fire…

well I slept through the coronation, so just got to see highlights.
I mean, it means nothing to me especially, certainly I think the new king is a POS.
But:
The pageantry, and tradition, are a thing. So many want nothing to do with history and tradition any more.

I had the coronation on my tablet when I was sleeping. Odd periods of quiet punctuated by bagpipe bands, and then droning clergy. I really liked seeing how much of the marching military was transported on the subway and came out at Waterloo station like a poorly disguised flash mob.

Well, I sold Larry's truck. It's still in the family, so to speak, but it won't be going to the playa ever again. Nor will I, unless I can wrangle a plug and play fly in scenario. My health just cannot take it without MyLarry to make me a priority. My campmates knew I was taking a year off and were hinting about using the truck and trailer (and all the infrastructure I own and store) back in February. I gave them a mumbled "wellll....". I can't wait until late summer when they get off their butts to do something with the camp, and find it's gone. Pikachu faces all around. It's a little cruel, but they've taught me well.

I don't know I'd just trust "black market" out of hand...not being tested for residues, it may well be there, or even worse (knowing they're not getting tested)? I guess “black market” has a sinister ring to it. There were many smaller grow operations that are now stuck without a legal license, unavailable or unaffordable. Some were supplying medical dispensaries in that gray area before recreational legalization and were committed to providing a wholesome product, looking forward to operating above board. They were blocked out of the industry, perhaps undercapitalized for the leap, operating on margins that could not accommodate the incredible taxes, or they were simply unable to obtain limited licenses. There may be some backyard side hustlers, like folks who sell eggs, or the occasional side of bacon, and I’d call that pretty unadulterated. The fly by night toxic waste cartel operations aren’t providing a safer product, I agree.
The pesticide the state of Nevada issued a warning about is not something labs test for, or retailers were aware of. The list of growers to watch for seemed local to Las Vegas area, but one of the brands is sold in dispensaries in Reno.
What should be fresh produce, imho, turned into processed adulterated crap pretty quickly. Really legal, local farmer’s market offerings may be a true pipe dream.

yeah, I think it comes down to trusting humans...
in the pot industry, many are out for an easy, quick buck, and don't know, or care, how to "do it right".
Seems it'd be important, if you partake, to really know your sources.
I trust cognac.

Yeah it’s all tested, but tested for what? Legal status was expected to regulate for safe practices. A law isn’t much without enforcement. (I’m glad to see someone caught this pesticide use.)
I dipped in when it became legal, I thought it was nice after so many years abstention, and was swayed by studies into the holistic “entourage” of compounds, and full spectrum, natural plant benefits. The dry machine trimmed flower sold now tests for terpenes in single digits (mg/g), whereas when it first became legal, it was sticky, with numbers in the teens standard, in the 20s occasionally, and higher in concentrates, as expected. Sometimes now, only two or three terpenes are noted. 4mg/g would be a dominant reading. I overheard once, a bud tender stating a concentrate’s terpenes were “botanically derived”. Additives still, but better to not be synthetic.
The trichomes are fragile with handling and I’m guessing bud is not as shelf stable as the industry would like. Some entourage. I’ve pretty much stopped until the next time it seems worthwhile, it might be nice to sample a homegrown offering. AntiM, nice to see you here. A big jettison, but a truck and trailer will be useful somewhere, that’s a good handoff. MyLarry was such a beautiful facilitator for all your materials and gear. You made such a great burn team. I’m getting used to the feeling of no future burns also. I’m bothered by the changes, I guess. Ticket access and cost are becoming insurmountable. I am loathe to tackle either.

What an adventure and journey yesterday! A stop at "Castle Token", a treat to be sure! Thanks for the hospitality, so great to put a face with the name, and your partner was a pure delight!
And an epically beautiful drive up (California) hwy 49. It goes along the mid elevations of the "Gold Country" from Oakhurst to Chilcoot, right by Tokens house, and mine (2 hours north of Token). Wild flowers, tall green grass, little streams and ponds everywhere. Add to that the fascination geology of the "Mariposa formation" is the gold producer of the region. Massive serpentine, quartz, slate, shale, granite, diorite, in different orientations. Of course, this will dry up soon, but it's at it's peak right now, and spectacular. To top it off, found a local diner in San Andreas, where I got the best pastrami and cheese sammich I've ever had!
Sometimes, a 10 hour road trip/ride to get a load of granite is worth it.!
and how about them earthquakes. They are about 50 miles north of me here, but, felt both the big ones yesterday and last night, to the point the house was making creaks and pops and things were swaying...
Perhaps, I was the "Pale Rider"?....

Bravo, ygmir and token collide in the world! The benefits and power of bacon proven once again.
There’s a hole in the bottom of the sea. Did some supernaturally prescient person write that doggerel ditty of a song? Not sea water leaking out, but tectonic lubricant. I feel my lubricant leaking out as well. Whatever provides me ease or cushion in dealing with others. I have been thinking of my mother’s last years, the times I could have chosen kindness instead of a winning position, and how much nicer it could have been. I hope I can do better with this awareness, but it’s not too likely.
Happy Sunday, bar.

Hey bar! Coffees working, Pulpo put in a vacation request to work an edm burner art fest in Vegas. I’m trying to find an old thread “what’s in, what’s out” I couldn’t get any search hits and spent a while searching through my posts. If anyone has luck finding it, drop a link please. I wanted to comment on this years camp theme of “event space”, camps hosting other people’s talks and activities as their “theme” contribution. Chill space out, event space in.

I'm wondering if maybe we've had another "daBar3" style fire? Perhaps it's time for a new "What's In, What's Out", if it doesn't show up soon. Would you like to do the honors and create a new one?

What’s in what’s out… I think it’s good group joke work plus old favorite Simon’s socks. A form tighter than a haiku. I think there were some annual compiling of threads and that you’re right, there was more than one year of this. I’ll try to resurrect one of the oldest ones if I have to choose. It’s an interesting snapshot of how our gripes bring back memories of some big changes, and the evolution of our pet peeves. It sent me whistling back in time, (there have been many of us) My search lost focus as I time tripped a bit, so many nice people, I recall. Then I was really enjoying a gigapan of the city and trying to recall my address that year. My shade tipi usually stands out if I can narrow down the block. https://eplaya.burningman.org/viewtopic ... n#p1099572

yeah, some of those old thread are a pure joy! silliness, anger, aggression, jocularity, politics (sometimes even polite discourse and disagreement), adventure, planning, lustful interludes, etc, etc.
Interesting too, to see how some folks, and socks, came and went, some morphed, some evolved, and some devolved. It's been a grand ride, really.
