Hello friends I've yet to meet yet.

Hi friends,
I'm a small but mighty girl writing to you from this Coffee shop I'm at for the first time in Nanaimo, BC! I live in beautiful Vancouver surrounded by the mountains and the ocean.
I've been eyeing Burning man for many years and it always triggered a level of curiosity for me; mostly I love the fact that people come together to build and have a collective experience. I'm at that point in my life where I don't want to be just a consumer anymore. Sounds super lame! Sure, going to an event and consume everything other people have planned for you is okay (ew, Coachella) but I rather get in the nitty gritty of things, see the sweats and hours of problem solving that goes into planning an experience, and then sit back and marvellously look at what we created and appreciate it 100X.
All of this to say... I'm ready excited to finally get to experience BRC this year.
If you're around the area, or not... drop me a line and say hello :)
-Lovely day

Welcome to ePlaya. The big burn is a fantastic and intense experience you are ready for!

There are many threads to search on preparation on ePlaya. For whatever reason using Google to search them works better than the search box. site:eplaya.burningman.org your_search_terms

Your https://regionals.burningman.org/ is always useful and you can find burner neighbors by their socials.

I live in a 45 inches of rain town, Nanaimo on the sea is going to be even moister. The dryness and dust is very tough on the skin, hair, and lungs. There are many threads on ePlaya about how to take care of those.

Most of the active people here have 10-30 years burning experience, so we can be more grumpy than some other forums, we just have high expectations that new burners prepare to survive and thrive on our little wilderness campout. In some ways it is an adventure comparable to hiking the Pacific Coast Trail.

hahahaha Sign me up for hiking the PCT, aka I am reaaaadddyyy for the Playa and whatever it wants to throw at me. Thanks for giving me the heads up about the grumpyness of this forum (that I haven't exprienced YET). Good to know I'm talking to the OGs on here.

I will say-- This girl actually does not have a ticket yet and is hoping the universe does its magic to connect me to one. Please do let me know if you can help me with that and I can offer whatever I can in return.
May all be happy!

Hey there, welcome to ePlaya!
Elderberry

When I was a kid I used to pray every night for a new bicycle.
Then I realized that the Lord doesn't work that way so I stole one and asked Him to forgive me

The best way to find a ticket is not transactional, that is don't offer to pay whatever you can, but participatory- get involved with your local BM community. The ticket will appear!
Everyone is so politically fucked up that they're segregating themselves in the name of equal rights and liberation.

I couldn't agree more. We had a young guy come to our camp 10 years ago with a connected buddy. He was so helpful and involved. He jumped in to help cook and do virtually whatever was needed. He will be back every year if he wants to. He can get tickets from many different people. He learned quickly to get involved in organizing all aspects of the camp.
On the other side, we've had people who make themselves very scarce and bring nothing to our camp or to the event. They tend to bum food and water from camp mates, and have nothing to share. They need to find a new camp.
