I'm once again looking for a tarp for my monkey hut. I once built a tarp out of attic foil, and it worked spectacularly well. But it gave out after a couple of years. Has anyone seen a source for large (20x24) sheets of mylar? I've only ever seen 5 foot rolls. Perhaps that's just how it's made. But I'd LOVE to find a single large sheet. Any leads?

Re: Does anyone make a mylar tarp?
There are some companies who make whole house wraps for wild fires. It is on my list to look at them. No idea on wind durability. Plain old tarp prices have gone up a lot.
The other product you see are small survival blankets where the mylar is quilted on. They are small about 4'x8' and sometimes orange on the other side. SOL is a brand. They can be clipped to tents with binder clips and are very reusable.
I think the 5 foot width is due to how it is made. I believe aluminum is evaporated in a vacuum onto the mylar (plastic) backing.
There is extremely expensive theatrical mirror sheet, maybe Rosebrand is a source. Again no idea on wind. Rosebrand would also have woven metallic fabrics, possibly wide yardage. Companies that sell fabric for making sailboat sails may have something.
I have seen aluminized fabric in hydroponic grow tents but haven't searched for the fabric.
Shiftpod would have looked at Chinese fabric sources and they have their tents sewn there.

Tyvek 14, the kind used for garments that resembles cloth more than paper. Not the stuff for house wrap you can get at the big-box stores.
Thus far the most durable material available for these kinds of shenanigans.
Behaves like cloth so can be sown, glued, machine washed …
Built a bunch of custom dome covers from the stuff ~ 20 years back and it is truly robust stuff.

Re: Does anyone make a mylar tarp?
Thanks for the tyvek suggestion. Any idea where it can be purchased? I'm in Nor Cal. Did you sew it up? I assume it'll hold grommets. My biggest fear is keeping the seams together. But if it throws shade and breathes it would be much better than most tarps. I'd still love to find a big sheet of mylar. It was just amazing how cool it was in the monkey hut with refective foil on it. But taping together a 20x24 sheet is a royal PITA. And it doesn't hold up. So maybe it's time to try tyvek.

Have you tried Aluminet?
It’s woven shiny silver shade cloth. Breathable, durable, has a little bit of stretch to it and it’s sewable. I’ve seen it used successfully on monkey huts.
