Bike shade canopy

After last years heat, I thought I’d try to put a shade canopy over my bike (and light it with some LED animations at night).
I’m using tent poles and pipe clamps to anchor them to the back rack of the bike.
Where I’m gettting stuck is:
How best to attach to the front (not sure if handlebars are best since the whole canopy would turn).
Should I attach with a rigid pole or something more like a strong cord?
I plan on putting shade cloth on top and some decorative fabric on the sides (high up so as not to impair vision).
Any one experimented with this? Any advice?

Any type of shade or material put on the sides of a bike, become a major wind trap. Even a light breeze will push and pull the bike, and a bigger wind will tear your contraption right off.

You’re right. I should have clarified. The side “shade” is nothing more than a few inches colorful fabric. Just something to add a nice visual element - not real shade at all.
