Camp THREAT has room for a few more Badass Comrades

CAMP THREAT IS RECRUITING

So you’re looking to join a Burning Man Camp?

Well, you might just be in luck, Camp THREAT is recruiting for some Badass New Comrades.

We are a strictly no EDM camp, providing a refuge for those who need to get away from the nonstop douche-douche-douche music. Rock, metal, country, funk, soul, jazz, hip hop, R&B etc are our jams. We host several interactive activities. We have a bar, The Black Rock City Communist Party Officers Lounge. New in 2023: Our bar is open 24/7 to better cater to our friends and enemies in our fine little town of Black Rock City. Serving up the finest in drinks and leftist satire, we make fun of everyone including ourselves.

We have dues, blame capitalism. Blame Biden or Trump or the economy or your parents or whoever, this shit is expensive and everybody contributes. They are not the lowest camp dues on the playa, nor are they the highest. Dues get you hot dinner every night (vegetarian/GF options available), drinking water, one 5 gal shower (as many as you want in our camp shower if you bring your own water and deal with your own gray water), access to scaffold tower/heckling platform, public and private shadey chill spots, some fun stickers to give to your friends and other perky perks. We will have 24/7 electricity available, if you plan to bring an air conditioner we do ask for additional financial dues for that and you have to bring the right kind! More info will be shared in DM.

We have a few different events we host through the week, parties and such, we bring a bunch of condoms and candy and toiletries to pass out to people at the Porto potties every morning. Unlicensed therapy sessions via megaphone. Porto Potty weddings. New and Improved! BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND: Playa Gift Gambling Corner! Live minstrel performances. Hazardous decor. Think snark and irreverence on the outside but care and squishy on the inside. We work hard and play hard. We need everyone to pitch in and help with our events and we will ask for you to sign up for one shift during the week – helping out in the kitchen, Bartending, MOOP sweep, or coordinating ice/recycling runs. Every Camp THREAT Member is expected to help at least ONE FULL DAY of set-up or tear down. Or two half days. More if you want us to really, really like you. We understand some people have jobs and default world commitments, if you are unable to come early or stay past Sunday 9/3 we will ask you to sign up for THREE shifts through the week. We currently have a few WAP’s available for Sunday pre-event for anyone interested in helping with Set-up.

We ask our members to support the causes by bringing a bottle each of alcohol for the bar and some mixers, and some sort of offering to the comfort of our lounge area- cushions, seating, rugs etc. THREAT is a participation heavy camp, if you just want to show up and hang out under shade that someone else built and eat food that someone else brought and cooked while not doing much to contribute yourself, this is not the camp for you.

EVERYBODY WORKS, EVERYBODY PAYS.

VIRGINS WELCOME!

We have one or two tickets and possibly a car pass available for the right hard-working, ass-kicking individuals. We *may* have leads on other tickets and we all look out for our members. If you are ticketed or ticket hopeful and looking for a playa home that might be a little different than most of the chakra aligning, eye gazing, creepy footwashing stations that we all have heard about and therefore must be everywhere, then Camp THREAT might be for you.

Some people will say you don’t need a camp or pay dues or work shifts at Burning Man. They’re right, you don’t. You don’t need to go to Burning Man either. But if you do, you might as well do it with some attitude and while Camp THREAT has plenty of that, we could always use a little bit more.

DM for more info if interested. Be prepared to tell me about who you are, why you want to join our camp and what you bring to the table.

I dunno, I hear y’all don’t got your fuel delivery sorted for the big-ass generator …

… how about a 50% deposit on the dues and then the rest after the experience delivered is with 24/7 power?

And Bacon, must have the Bacon meal plan!

;)

Update: we are looking for new member(s) who own a whole bunch of yellow 5 gallon jerry cans and who are willing to stand in line at Hell station for 4 hours and hand carry 50 gallons of diesel fuel back to camp each day.

Or someone who daily drives a truck with a 300 gallon transfer tank in the bed.

Rent a tow behind oiler that holds ~ 500 gallons, drive to Sierra Oil in Reno and get the off road diesel tax free …

… probably cheaper even with ticket price included for the volunteer…

Current fuel storage regulations prohibit storing more than 110 gallons of flammable/combustible liquids in a camp.

I have no idea if this is in any way a viable option, but as I read it there is a distinction between “fuel in use” vs. “fuel storage”. Fuel in an external tank that is plumbed to the generator is considered “in use” and so doesn’t count as stored fuel.

I know that’s an option for small generators like the Honda 2ks, but I don’t know if there’s anything comparable at the size of generator you are talking about.

[And obviously, this does not constitute official guidance from the org. I’m way out of my area on this one, obviously.]

If I remember correctly, the Honda mod was a vacuum with a bit of gravity assist method.

The key was the gas cap having the venting switch for the tank that was drilled out, tapped then connected to an outboard tank.

Probably could work if not for the scale and volume of fuel we talking about.

Could open some possibilities, but man o man, if anything goes wrong … world of hurt.

I think it's all gravity. And yeah, very dependent on good seals for the system. Some people bought an extra cap to modify.

There was an individual on one of the FB TCO pages entertaining this idea/loophole with an external 250 gallon tank and plumbing it into a diesel generator. The Hondas are easy to do and fairly low risk, my thoughts with trying to do something similar with a very expensive piece of rented equipment and extremely large volumes of diesel fuel are very much in line with Tokens, if something goes wrong... it will go VERY wrong.
