I’m asking for a Hail Mary of help, can you donate my injured partner an E-bike

Hey everyone. I need an E-bike, and ideally, for free; but I promise it’s for a good cause.

I’m looking for a Hail Mary, I know the principals of burningman, and I understand radical self reliance, I also think there’s times to ask for a miracle.

I have been going to burningman for nearly a decade now. I love it, like many it’s home. This year I wanted to share it with my partner. She’s been looking forward to this all year. She saved, prepared, purchased, she was ready to go.

We work in a remote area near big bend National park in Texas, and on friday, we let our guard down for a second, and she was bitten by a rattle snake, and it took three hours to get her to help. Worse off the bell we got her to botched the antivenom and we had to take her to a bigger hospital a day later.

Over this time she almost lost her life due to a reaction to the anti venom, and due to the time it took to her her help, she almost lost her leg. It’s been a nightmare of a few days, she spent her birthday in the hospital.

She’s made amazing bounds in her recovery but before we come we still have a few more doctors appointments and check ups.

Before you wonder about safety; we have no interest in her coming if it will even be slightly dangerous, and to be honest, it’s more likely she will NOT make this burn. But there’s hope, and with that hope a chance she can, but she won’t be having the same burn she was planning. Also our camp in the AEZ village has a registered nurse.

In my head after nearly losing your life, and limb, endless pain in movie level nightmare scenarios. I wanna put a happy ending to this story for her.

If someone could donate an e-bike, one where she can pedal without much strain, it could save the day. It means if she can get healthy enough to come, she can come. A regular bike will be too much strain.

If your wondering why we don’t rent, it’s cause 1: we live in the middle of no where, 2: we weren’t planning on this, we weren’t ready for it 3: look at the price of anti-venom, she needed 12 vials, plus ambulance rides (2), nights in the hospital, and 3 ER visits. When default world hits her, she’s looking at a 6 figure bill. But that’s a tomorrow problem.

We don’t want to keep the bike, we aren’t asking for something we would ever use in default world. But maybe some fortunate person, can make my partner a fortunate woman for this event.

Either your partner is medically cleared to go or she isn’t.

That is a very binary construct.

After that is resolved between her and her doctors …

Your request for an e-bike is pretty much all about you. You want a perfect this or that …

I’ve had plenty memorable Burning Man years where I stayed in my neighborhood and let Burning Man come to me.

So why not embrace a BM where you and your partner discover a new way to enjoy the Playa, instead of chasing your vision of what BM is and should be?

Respectfully, and without any interest to engage on this subject with any conflict, this post is woefully unhelpful across the board and it’s not a 2 cents that really does anyone good in a specific direction. Planning ahead is smart, gifting is possible, some people like to help. All of this things in conjunction can make miracles happen. If they don’t come together, they don’t and it is what it is and I can sleep soundly knowing I tried.

I don’t play games where people tell me what is or isn’t. So my request is from a pure place of heart, of wanting someone who risked life and limb to have the best opportunity to enjoy an event she can. Why would any of us dream less than big?

No one really has a dream about what BM can or even should be. By why go into it with limited options, if that’s what falls on us, so be it, it will be the burn we need, if not, because preparations were made as soon as we could, that’s also a beautiful win.

If you’re feeling comfortable letting burningman come to you however, I invite you to donate your transportation apparatus to any of the travelers from far away who are just now finding out they are bikeless, but I feel like there’s a good reason we all want functional bikes out there, and the ability to use them.

I think it would be very romantic if you built a rickshaw and took her everywhere on the Playa. Just think of the lifelong memories that would make.

Seriously though, I hope she is doing better and gets a chance to go this year. But consider the fact that you're asking perfectly normal people (well to be honest most of us are broken) who don't know you, to donate an eBike that for all they know will never see again.

I don't think the Tech Bros with money to burn ever come here. So, your odds of finding someone to donate something that expensive is pretty slim. Best of luck though.

Now on the other hand, if Simon, who I have never met, hurt his ankle in a fur trapping accident and I had an extra eBike I'd be more than happy to lend it to him. But that's because he's part of this dysfunctional online community and I feel with high confidence that I'd get my bike back. But you have been here for since 2016 and seldom posted. Sorry, I just don't get the same warm fuzzy feeling.

I truly do hope everything works out for you with just under a week remaining. Thats just enough time to make a rickshaw, or consider other ideas that rely less on the blind kindness of strangers.
