TikTok may have found an unlikely ally in Donald Trump.

Ore Huiying for The New York Times

Trump’s TikTok U-turn

TikTok users have continued to flood the social media platform — and lawmakers’ inboxes — with pleas to halt a bill that would force its Chinese owners to divest or face a ban in the U.S.

That effort to keep TikTok online has now attracted some unlikely backers, including Donald Trump.

A recap: Last week, a powerful House committee voted 50-0 to remove TikTok from U.S. app stores by Sept. 30 unless its Beijing-based parent company, ByteDance, sold its stake. A large contingent of Republicans and moderate Democrats see the app as a national security risk.

President Biden said on Friday that he’d sign the bill if it reaches his desk — even as his campaign has embraced the platform.

But Trump has potentially scrambled the political calculus in Washington. Starting last week, the former president has pushed back against a TikTok ban, arguing that such a move would strengthen Meta’s Facebook — the “true Enemy of the People!” * (Remember that as president, Trump issued an executive order ordering ByteDance to divest its American assets.)

Trump’s 180 may have already weakened support for the bill. Senator Lindsey Graham, Republican of South Carolina and a prominent China hawk, said yesterday that he was “deeply conflicted” about the bill and was unsure how he’d vote on it.

There are a few reasons Trump may have changed his mind. Pro-Trump MAGA content “does very well on TikTok,” Alex Bruesewitz, a Republican strategist, told Axios. He added, without citing evidence, that “Meta is suppressing MAGA content on both Facebook and Instagram.”

And needling Biden on an issue dear to younger voters could be politically advantageous to Trump.

TikTok is also gaining powerful connections. The Club for Growth, the anti-tax lobbying group, has hired the former Trump adviser Kellyanne Conway to advocate for the social media platform  , according to Politico. (Trump has recently declared that he and the Club for Growth are “back in love” after it supported other candidates in the Republican primaries.)

Meanwhile, the billionaire investor Jeff Yass, who holds a 15 percent stake in ByteDance, is also a major donor to the Club for Growth. Yass, who backed several Trump rivals for the G.O.P. nomination, is also striking a rapprochement with the former president, having invited him to speak at the group’s recent retreat.

*Trump made a racist comment toward Zuck on social media in his TikTok announcement. I believe Oracle had a proposal to buy TikTok and securely host it in the Oracle cloud. Larry Ellison, who I saw in BRC once with his 2 person boat MV with his hot partner could buy it for pocket change. It would fit into Oracle's medical business by extracting private data from users.

Kellyanne's daughter used TikTok to exposed her mom as an asshat in a big way.
I thought it might be the end of her, but no....

"In cognitive warfare, the human mind becomes the battlefield. The aim is to change not only what people think, but how they think and act. Waged successfully, it shapes and influences individual and group beliefs and behaviours to favour an aggressor’s tactical or strategic objectives. In its extreme form, it has the potential to fracture and fragment an entire society, so that it no longer has the collective will to resist an adversary’s intentions. An opponent could conceivably subdue a society without resorting to outright force or coercion.

The aims of cognitive warfare can be limited, with short time horizons. Or they can be strategic, with campaigns launched over the course of decades. A single campaign could focus on the limited aim of preventing a military manoeuver from taking place as planned, or to force the alteration of a specific public policy. Several successive campaigns could be launched with the long-term objective of disrupting entire societies or alliances, by seeding doubts about governance, subverting democratic processes, triggering civil disturbances, or instigating separatist movements."

How a smear campaign against NPR led Elon Musk to feud with Signal

Rightwing media personalities on X transmuted a screed against NPR’s CEO into a fight over encryption via the Transitive Property of Bad People

https://www.theguardian.com/technology/ ... usk-signal

There is some fun writing in this article. "Every effective smear campaign takes a grain of truth, then coats it in layers of innuendo like an oyster applying nacre."

Nine witnesses in the criminal cases against former President Donald Trump have received significant financial benefits, including large raises from his campaign, severance packages, new jobs, and a grant of shares and cash from Trump’s media company.

The benefits have flowed from Trump’s businesses and campaign committees, according to a ProPublica analysis of public disclosures, court records and securities filings. One campaign aide had his average monthly pay double, from $26,000 to $53,500. Another employee got a $2 million severance package barring him from voluntarily cooperating with law enforcement. And one of the campaign’s top officials had her daughter hired onto the campaign staff, where she is now the fourth-highest-paid employee.

Perry is more problematic than Jackson. Cassidy Hutchinson, former aide to Trump’s chief of staff Mark Meadows, told the House Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the U.S. Capitol that Perry played an important role in the plan to keep Trump in office after he lost the 2020 presidential election. She told podcast host Scott Lamar in October 2023 that Perry was “central to the planning of January 6,” and she has said repeatedly that Perry asked Trump for a pardon before he left office.

Federal authorities from the FBI seized Perry’s cell phone in 2022 as part of their investigation into the effort to seize the presidency; he is the only member of Congress whose cell phone was seized. Like Trump, who has attacked the FBI since then-director James Comey refused to drop the investigation into the connections between Trump’s 2016 campaign and Russian operatives, Perry has complained bitterly about the FBI’s investigation of him.

Now, Perry will be on the committee that oversees the FBI. In a statement, he said: “I look forward to providing not only a fresh perspective, but conducting actual oversight—not blind obedience to some facets of our Intel Community that all too often abuse their powers, resources, and authority to spy on the American People.”

Former director of the CIA General Michael Hayden wrote: “That’s unbelievable. Both of them. Intelligence Committee? God help us.”

“Repeat a lie often enough it becomes the truth”
- some nazi asshole

“We can't have, like, willy-nilly proliferation of fake news. That's crazy. You can't have more types of fake news than real news. That's allowing public deception to go unchecked. That's crazy.”
- Elon Musk

“It was all true, especially the lies”
- Elim Garak

Camp THREAT has reportedly been denied placement by the Black Rock City Placement Committee.

Rumors abound that it’s a hoax, trolls, meant to rile up the opposition into thinking they’ve “won”. We all know that the only winning that happens at Burning Man happens at the box office and in Maid Marian’s checking account. Either the decision will be appealed or it was fake in the first place. A lone conspirator or an entire zeitgeist perpetrated by the cabal of Deep Playa in cahoots with the Fly Ranch Elite?

We may never know the truth. It’s better that way.

Russian Spy Plot To Sow 'Panic and Terror' in US Leaked

A Russian spy plot that sought to sow "panic and terror" in the West has been revealed in a joint-investigation.

Leaked emails from Russia's Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) obtained by independent Russian site The Insider and the German newspaper Der Spiegel reveal an elaborate plan masterminded in 2022, dubbed "Project Kylo."

If indeed Trump knows nothing about Project 2025 and has no idea who is behind it, his cognitive ability is rotten. As former chair of the Republican National Committee Michael Steele wrote, “Since [Project 2025] is designed to institutionalize Trumpism and you know nothing about it, then why do you echo some of its policy priorities during your rallies? Coincidence? And how exactly don’t you know that Project 2025 Director Paul Dans served as your chief of staff at the Office of Personnel Management, and Associate Director Spencer Chretien served as your special assistant and associate director of presidential personnel? And folks say we should be worried about Biden.”

Trump has an 100% history of lying. Lying about Project 2025 is an example of lying. He lied about COVID to support his campaign. There are websites cataloging his lies.
