"Musical, vocal and choreographic" works will be limited to a tempo of 80 to 116 beats per minute (BPM) to "conform to the Chechen mentality and sense of rhythm," said Dadayev, according to the Russian state-run news agency TASS.

A big antitrust fight may loom over Live Nation (NYTimes)

After taking on big deals and tech giants, the Biden administration’s antitrust enforcers are said to be preparing their next big fight: Live Nation, the parent company of Ticketmaster, whose lock on concert tickets and promotion faced renewed scrutiny after a Taylor Swift ticket debacle in 2022.

If the Justice Department sues, as The Wall Street Journal reports it is preparing to, it would cap years of scrutiny. Its stock fell nearly 7 percent in premarket trading this morning.

Live Nation has long faced complaints about its practices, including high ticket prices, poor customer service and anti-competitive tactics. Ticketmaster now controls more than 70 percent of the market for primary ticket sales at America’s biggest event venues, with exclusive contracts at many of them.

While Ticketmaster has been criticized for decades, its 2010 merger with Live Nation — a combination approved by the Justice Department under the Obama administration — raised concerns to a new level.

The latest inquiry began in 2022, when the Justice Department began examining whether Live Nation was exerting an illegal monopoly over the live music industry. The debacle involving ticket sales for Swift’s Eras Tour increased scrutiny, which led to a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing at which Democrats and Republicans alike sharply criticized the company.

Live Nation has argued for years that it isn’t breaking the law, saying that it faces more competition in ticket sales than ever. Last year, the company agreed to introduce more transparency into the fees that get tacked onto tickets, as part of the Biden administration’s fight against what it calls “junk fees.”

The company is still operating under a legal settlement with the Justice Department as a condition of the 2010 merger that forbids it from threatening venues from losing access to its tours if they opt for alternative ticketing providers.

Stagecoach and Coachella fans leave behind tons of camping gear, clothes, food. Here's what happens to it
LA Times

I would also say there are many videos out there by influencers touring the camping areas of Coachella with high "camp dues" relating the experience and talking about how much they spent. It is the BRC culture to fight what we could easily become.

Lollapalooza is about 2-3 years behind BRC in reducing generator fuel by using batteries.

(We're immune from their claim because we aren't a "major festival." We don't have a "main stage." We aren't sponsored either. To get the next generation, you have to move toward reducing carbon.)

Lollapalooza is excited to announce that this year’s Main Stage, sponsored by T-Mobile, will be powered solely and completely on a hybrid battery system, including all audio, lighting, video and stage production. In partnership with Live Nation’s sustainability initiative Green Nation, T-Mobile and CES Power.

A hybrid system is both solar and generators charging batteries. If there is not enough solar available, either because of lack of sunlight or because of not enough panels/ inverters/ etc. then the generator kicks in and batteries are charged from that. It does reduce fuel use but by how much depends on how much solar is there.
Burning Man has done this for several years.
Everyone is so politically fucked up that they're segregating themselves in the name of equal rights and liberation.

Article on how festivals make money (see attached image)

Lirim Zenuni

Data Analytics Manager at Radix

🌟 How Music Festivals Make Money 🎶

My recent LinkedIn poll on what sankey to do next generated 158 total votes, and "Music Festivals" came out on top with 57 votes. Your interest drove me to explore and visualize how these vibrant events generate revenue and manage expenses.

Finding detailed financial statements for music festivals is impossible. However, through extensive research and analysis of multiple articles and webpages, I've recapped the financial dynamics of some of the largest music festivals like Coachella, Glastonbury, Lollapalooza, Bonnaroo, and Tomorrowland. The data provided is not actual data from any specific organization but rather a proforma based on industry-reported coefficients. This data is used to construct a P&L (Profit and Loss statement) and visualize it through a Sankey chart.

This topic is particularly timely given the buzz around the "Sunny Hill" festival being held in Prishtina, which has sparked significant interest and excitement.
