On Thursday, March 28, Beth Reinhard, Jon Swaine, and Aaron Schaffer of the Washington Post reported that Richard Grenell, an extremist who served as Trump’s acting director of national intelligence, has been traveling around the world to meet with far-right foreign leaders, “acting as a kind of shadow secretary of state, meeting with far-right leaders and movements, pledging Trump’s support and, at times, working against the current administration’s policies.”

In The Guardian today, Hugo Lowell reported that Trump’s social media company was kept afloat in 2022 “by emergency loans provided in part by a Russian-American businessman under scrutiny in a federal insider-trading and money-laundering investigation.”

^That is disgusting. I worked on the 1994 SA elections and did not get killed from threatened and actual election violence. Working for the election commission we were obvious targets. The violence came from 2 separatist groups, the white nationalists, and the Zulu nationalists. There are a lot of similarities today in the US with states diverging in law from American and human values.

Under dictator Trump, it becomes purely transactional. At his age, any bribes would be focused on his children. Across the board tariffs at 10% would be a regressive tax, and as the article says trigger hyperinflation. The current Trump tariffs on China, which make sense when they actually cause US manufacturing, are good, when the money is actually used to permanently onshore manufacturing inside the US. We will see if Biden succeeds in that with Chinese overcapacity policy. The existing tariffs on Chinese imports are essentially a $75 billion tax which goes into the US general budget. 10% across the board would generate a total of about $400 billion tax revenue.
