Informal Camp

Post by Bruce030 » Tue Aug 15, 2023 10:07 pm

Hello everyone! I know it's rather last minute but was wondering if anyone was interested in forming a new camp? Though it's too late to receive "placement" we would still have the option to open camp (just find an open spot basically) or even walk in camp (park car on Playa and walk to campsite).

Though it's probably too late to contribute much in the way of art, setting up a basic camp **should** not be too difficult........

First there would be NO camp dues (but everyone would NEED to contribute something.) And for stuff like shade structures just keep things simple, maybe combine several smaller picnic tents? theres lots of possibilities

Ahhh sweet memories of when Fat Sam, Greg, Plowman and myself and some of the best people I've ever met started Stag Camp. Still going today.

Looks like you have chosen the 3:00 side. That's great.
You may need to mount some signs to guide people in as cell service evaporates near the end of set up week.

I made small plywood signs with arrows under the camp name and mounted them to the BRC sign posts with 2" u bolts. I just made a bread crumb trail of signs leading to camp and that's how people found camp for several years.

Let us know how it goes and what camp name you choose so we can follow your story.

Making a last-minute run myself and rolling solo. Looking for anyone to adopt me at their camp, particularly informal. Very much open to contributing.

Anyhow, none of these replies showed on my dashboard or whatever its called so I went over to fb and made the same post where there was zero interest. I apologize for the people I didnt respond to on here.

Anyway, I got to BM Thursday morning and enjoyed the one dry day. Overall there was not as much stuff going on as expected (I camped around 1 and J). Though I did meet a lot of cool people in the area the only other "camp" within say a block that had something going on (some kind of public activity) was the one (forget name) giving out Pizza.

I would be interested to hear how everyone else's experience was?

Last year was fantastic. We ended up becoming the hub of our little neighborhood because we had a waterproof roof and plenty of booze and food.

Weather in the early week was pleasant, people were in a good mood after everyone being kinda pissy in '22 because of the heat.

I will say that some areas seemed super uber mega dead when riding around earlier in the week. Felt like there was stuff just missing even before the storm. This largely depended on the neighborhood.
