Vehicles in the Walk-In Camping Areas - What are the Rules?

Post by Lulu_In_California » Sat Jul 13, 2024 3:55 pm

Greetings,

I am coming to BM solo this year, and planning on setting up camp in the Walk-In area.

However, I noticed that you must park your vehicle at K - and walk in. Hence the name "Walk In." :)

That's fine. Except my plan was to set up my tent in the back of my borrowed pick up truck.

Is that a no-no?

Will I get in trouble?

Will I even be allowed to do so?

Anyone know the rules on that?

Many people camp on K in campers and travel trailers. Camping on K in the back of your pickup truck would be fine. There are no vehicles allowed in walk in camping so if you want to camp there you have to haul your stuff out to where you want to set up. Many people use a wagon for this. An approach you might take to figuring this out on Playa is to drive to the walk in camping area up to 3:30 or 3:00 and just check things out. See if there is parking and if the tent in truck would work there or if you want to camp out in the open. There will be options near by in the city blocks as well that you can check out too.

It seems like people back up to the last outermost fence line, hop over the fence with their stuff and kind of camp close to their vehicle. I could be totally wrong though :coffee:
Oh my god, it's HUGE!

Hey there,

Thank you so much for your explanation of how this all works.

It is much appreciated. 💜

One more question:

I am not opposed to the idea of camping out in the walk in area. It might be nice to get some sleep.

Can I:

drive my truck to a spot, unload, and then drive back and park near K?

You can unload all your camping gear and other supplies from your vehicle. You might want to leave your bike in the vehicle when you go to park it, then ride it back to your camping spot. Hide valuables in your locked vehicle.
