^The 1 & 2 star generals are promoted through the ranks. The 3 & 4 star generals are appointed to the joint chiefs, regional commands, and other commands for 2-4 year terms expiring at different times and confirmed by the Senate. So ^ is legal, but doing it mid term is weird. Disrupting all the services and all the commands at once would place the US in an extreme state of weakness.

The Peter Principle may get us more pugnacious weird promotions, maybe "crossfit" MTG, "teen mom" Boebert, "lyin'" Gym Jordan, and Ted "Cancun" Cruz. I hear Alex Jones is out of a job.

If the president bypasses the Senate on appointments, individuals would serve temporarily consistent with the next president's interest, in acting, as opposed to normal appointments. We shall get to see if the Senate will try to best the House in weird.

If you have been keeping up with the America First Policy Institute you will find a lot of things Trump wants to do.

Let's see;
1) Deportation of migrants and close the U.S. borders
2) Roll back protection for transgender students
3) Impose tarriffs on most imported goods
4) Fire, potentially, thousands of federal employees he believes are enemies hiding in the goverment
5) Pardon those who tried to overtake the goverment on January 6
6) Eliminate climate policies and abolish environmental standards for companies
7) Open federal lands for drilling (oil, natural gas) and mining (lithium, copper)
8.) Repeal electric vehicle mandates
9) Halt offshore wind energy projects
10) Fire special counsel Jack Smith
11) Pardon himself of all the crimes he can
12) Reduce corporate taxes
13) Exempt tips from being taxed
14) Make interest on car loans tax deductible
15) Withdraw from the Paris Agreement (the internatinal climate treaty)
16) Cut federal funding from any school teaching critical race theory
17) Get rid of the Department of Education
18) Ban "woke" from schools
19) Militarize the Department of Justice against those he sees as a threat
20) Jail journalists who refuse to name their sources
21) Jail anyone desecrating the American flag for one year

Now for the Trump wish list:
1) Get rid of term limits for the President
2) No more voting for the President. Instead the retiring President will pick the successor.
3) Require bible studies to be taught in schools
4) Married women votes will be done by the husband
5) The American nation will be defined by christianity and the government will take steps to keep it that way
6) Harsh penalties for those who do not follow the Christian way of life
7) Eventually get rid of the Senate and House, replaced with an open oligarchy of those the President deems worthy

I think that covers it all. Overall a very right wing extreme agenda.
One thing is for sure, it could be a helluva train wreck.

As bad as Trump could be, pray he does not die in office. Vance would be much worse.

Each time I bring that up I am greeted with apathy and told I am being paranoid. He will not stop until he is the absolute ruler of this country. That seems to be his idea of how to "MAGA". The obstacles are falling fast.

Too bad we cannot get Washington, Idaho, Montana, and Oregon to secede. Create another country where people who want a sane democracy can live. Apparently, there is not that many people who want it so that should be enough land.

I think he is counting on the increase in prices. That could slow sales down, which might be the goal, but it is short-sighted if it is. Slower sales means tariff increases on goods we export. No one would win.

On the other hand maybe he wants prices to increase so manufacturer's might move back to the states. Of course, if that happened there would be no workforce for them after they all get deported.

I wish I had the popcorn consession. It is going to be a wild, expensive ride. We can fix it next election, but we will not do it. That assumes there will be a "next" election.

Even if there is a workforce, manufacturers couldn't tool up quick enough to make a dent in what china provides.

If the illegals start to get deported, food prices will probably triple or overall shortages like they had in California a few years ago because the weren't enough people to harvest.

A tariff is not going to incentivize companies to move manufacturing back here anyway. The cost of the tariff will get passed to the consumer and the manufacturer will still be making more than if they moved back to the states.

Deportation is going to happen. Food prices will escalate. Farmers will be going bankrupt when they cannot get thier crops harvested. The beef and milk industries might collapse due to lack of grain and grass to feed the cattle. We will import more food than ever before.

Canada and Mexico could get a windfall of income if they are smart enough to get any unused farmland producing what the U.S. will need.

On the upside, the U.S. population growth will go negative. so there will be fewer people to feed. We are only at .53% annual population growth as it is. We were going to hit negative population growth in a few years, on our own. Trump will just speed it up.

The potential damage to our country will take decades to undo, if it can be undone. I still think he is going to be in office longer than what we think he will be. I fear he is not through tearing down our democracy. Apathy might be our undoing.

The idea that there won't be enough people to pick crops, harvest grains etc. is bull.
Don't believe that the 11 million + illegals are needed for farms. When asked at the border "where they are headed" they say one of the big cities. I don't think the 200,000+ in NYC are there to pick crops.

Hand picked and processed crops are going to suffer and farmers deserve it for voting for trump. This production void will be filled by imports of anything lacking and if it gets bad enough the quality of produce we see in the supermarket will go down. People might have to accept blemished or misshapen fruits and vegetable like we used to do... Remember that and seasonal vegetables?
I used to farm and I have no sympathy anymore for what they are going through.
Grain crops are totally different in labor requirements and the growing of grain crops will not suffer but processing might have to raise pay for basic jobs in terminals, mills and feed manufacturers. Almost all grain process are mechanically performed with no intensive labor involved. Delivery of bulk grains will be unaffected as it is all handled by CLD drivers and Rail which don't employ people who can not legally work in the good ol USA.
The Agricultural worker shortage which has been ongoing for over 20 years will get worse, people will loose farms and the larger agribusinesses will scoop them up if it pencils out.

And you know this how? I was raised of a farm. I can tell you getting help from any Gen Z or Gen Alpha would damn near be impossible. They last about 3 days (if that long) before quitting.

It does not matter where they say they are headed, it matters where they end up. Farmers will hire illegals if they are faced with losing a crop or herd because they cannot find legals to hire. We hired illegals on our farm and helped them work towards become citizens. Someone mentioned it is all automated. Well, that is partially correct. There is the task of prepping, cleaning, and maintaining those systems. Those tasks require human hands. You do not simply push one button and a crop is planted, grown, and harvested.

Given there are fewer legal/native young people to hire these days and those do not want labor intensive jobs, where do you turn?

Concerning the U.S. population. You know 2023 only saw our population growth to be 0.53%? It has been steadily dropping since 1955, as have births. We are about to go negative growth as the baby boomers are getting ready to die off in large amounts. Indeed the baby boomers represent the largest group of our population.
Without immigrants, we are going to be in very short supply of young working people. Immigration is not out of control. The last two years have levels lower than when Trump was President before. Then there is the cost of deportation, and building and manning a wall which will do little to stop the immigrants. History has proven walls do not work.

In another area, I have a very close friend who builds hospitals for a living and she tells me the construction companies she works with are having a very difficult time finding people to help. They cannot put illiegals to work, but what they are trying is to bring illegals onboard and training them to do the work, then if they sign a contract they will pay the legal fees to get help them become legal.

There are many areas where illegals have beend hired. Roofers, builders, farms, landscape, house cleaners, and so on have been filled by illegals or those who are trying to get citizenship. We simply do not have the workforce to fill those positions any longer.

It seems manual labor jobs are not good enough for many/most of the native young people. Or are there just not enough young people around to fill the jobs?

Agree. Many field crops, wheat, soybeans, and corn can now be planted and harvested by robot farm machinery. So our processed foods and high fructose corn sugar industries are safe. The meat industry is dependent on low cost immigrant labor. Fresh fruits and vegetables, likewise.

Adding tariffs on US imports will result in retaliatory tariffs on US exports. The last Trump tariffs required a bail out of large US farmers subject to tariffs-lost business on their exports.

Jared's friends, the Saudi sovereign wealth fund, are buying US farm land (to grow alfalfa for their polo ponies) with profits from changing the climate. So the next administration is going to have a hard time of their own making with farm policy.

We are entering the Corruption Zone. Policy will be set behind closed doors based on campaign contributions, and rapid gyrations in policy will allow massive profits on leaked inside information.

In our current political environment, FOX News and framing, accusations by current Republicans against their supposed enemies usually contain what they are actually themselves doing.

The change in administrations will set back reducing climate change. Insurers can't be controlled. So the insurance costs for extreme weather, wildfires, and flooding will fall on all, including Republican voters.

I'm a geek, so I follow State Department news. At least Rubio is smart. Smarter than JD Vance and worked with them. You heard it on ePlaya first, Cuba? The mafia has been waiting for years to bring gaming and corruption back to Cuba. It could be our unlimited corruption state.

It has been discussed back and forth and voted on, but Puerto Rico as the 51st state, DC 52nd, Greenland 53rd?

Then we should combine the Dakotas into one state, Wyoming is weird, but combine them with Montana and Idaho; Louisiana, Alabama and Mississippi; and Oklahoma and Arkansas. That would result in 5 less states and the residents would save a third to half on less state government!
