Do people still ePlaya and What is "Camp Envy"?

Since 2009, Camp Envy are a global group of burners who aren't physically at Burning Man, however, participate globally through CampEnvy.Org and #BMwebcast. No matter what troubles are weighing you down, we are here together, to lift you up and encourage you to persevere. Camp Envy isn't a single location, it's a state of mind and place for action... Make your own Camp Envy at home, burn regionally, and bring something to the party...

For many years, the population and cost of the annual Burning Man event has grown. Tickets, passes, and supplies are expensive, event support services are in greater numbers and more costly, and MOOP left behind from the event is getting worse (note: the resto crew spends about a month cleaning up the mess of a one week burn). Since Setember 1990, the Man has burned in a desert that some find remote, inhospitable, and difficult to traverse.

Some of us find a way to go anyway, even with regular jobs we don't always have the luxury of taking a week off to go volunteer, make, play, and burn. It is for these reasons and more that many burners-at-heart will not be able to attend the event in person. Even the CEO of Burning Man claims "we are well past the point where ticket revenues from Black Rock City are able to support our year-round cultural work" and still seeks additional funding...

In response to the Burning Man mission to be radically inclusive, in 2009 a live video broadcast was developed to connect and enlighten the farthest reaches of the planet. The live streaming video chat room viewers were in "Camp Envy"...

Through these connections, burners across the globe collaborate and build "on playa" theme camps. Some assist with the webcam team and BMIR, while others help to build theme camps and art cars. During the other 51 weeks of the year, Camp Envy members participate in global regional events, to share and inspire others to explore, get weird, and have fun. Participation above passivity...

Check some of the many iterations of Camp Envy for more information about how you can connect with other burners and creative people alike in your local community. Host your own event during the burn, get creative, freak out the normals, get outside, learn and educate, and burn all the things!!!...

We've been called "Burners without Playa", "The Largest Camp not in BRC", "A Home away from )'(ome"...
Camp Envy is YOU... We are Camp Envy... We are Everywhere...

Has Burning Man been over since 1997?... (probably)
Have Starlink and PnP camps or the ORG's practices and prices gentrified the event?... (it's been happening for a while)
Has hardship and communal effort been traded in for luxury and curated experiences?... (the dude abides)
Will the current administration prevent the BLM from granting a permit this year?... (not holding my breath)
Will ICE be located in more than just the 3 and 9 plazas this year?... (keep low and check your 6)
Will the man always burn?... (the continued increase in entropy points toward a theoretical final state of maximum disorder, known as the heat death of the universe, where all energy is evenly distributed and no further work can be done. so, no. )
Is Camp Envy still a thing?... (not really)
Is ePlaya still a thing?... (was it ever?)
Can we still have fun without going to the desert?... (hint: yes)
Did I take my medication?... (wut?)
Why so serious?... (nothing lasts forever)

No camp dues... the drama is free...

In 2025, we were devotees. This is a very good group. And we listened to BMRI radio daily. Also very fun and informative.
