This Mortal Coil

Damn, Tony! Is there anything we both don't like? That's some great music to give to a teenager so they can really get their pout on. It is soooooo sad. Lots of good stuff came out on that 4AD label. Most notably the sublime and spiritual Cocteau Twins who did some colaboration with TMC as well. Sometimes when singer Elizabeth Frazier burbles out with the meaningless phonics it's like the voice the IT.

Let's have an e-mail music share sometime.

Subtleties and style can of course can be argued but...

Its about the escalating problem of urban, human on human communication that our government seems so damn afraid of - especially in the arena of the disposessed.

Sometimes we are not worthy.

Well no shit... how about Modern English and here is a little known fact. Bauhaus was once on 4AD... and Wolfgang Press, and Colour Box, and one of my favorites: Clan of Xymox.

And The Garden of the Arcane Delights by Dead Can Dance was the ultimate EP in my opinion. That fucking mandolin was puzzlingly pulchritudinous. I loved it. I used to buy anything that said 4AD on it.

And then they signed some band out of SF called the Red House Painters. And I'd still like to ring their necks for never paying me off for a van I sold them on credit. Fucking punkasses. All good things come to an end. =)

... and Chrissy Hein is good, but not worthy of being JN's human microphone stand.

Hey Gigglesnort... we're talking about a lady who lets us boys in the "what it's like to be a woman" club just by singing. "Joey" comes to mind. Now open up the clubhouse or it's gonna get ugly.

Alright, Tony. How about Del Amitri? Another rare vocalist who can be vulnerable withouth whining.

Yes! There was a great 4AD compilation with lots of those bands on it. "Lonley Is An Eyesore" woke me up to that label big time.

you know, sadly, it doesn't really matter to me.

agreed, though: entirely different Beatles.

I really like Sgt. Pepper's...

Michelle is my favorite song, though. Hands down.

Now I'm listening to Crosby Stills Nash and Young.

"Find the cost of freedom" gives me chills..

You get that too Stuart? One rif of Carolyn's Fingers and I turn to silly putty. Saw them play live once. They didn't bring a drummer but had plenty of help with three guitars, bass, and drum machine just to get all the layers out there. Liz complained of touring becuase it was hard for her to memorize lyrics that aren't really words, but people were expecting to hear.

As for your mention of divinity, I kid you not... Coldplay.

And Johnette Napolitano is something special.
Especially since she physically moved away from the LA music scene to take up residence in a very small desert town out near Joshua Tree. Lots of time and space to write other things. Things i can't wait to hear.

I LOVE THE BEATLES!!!! I am really "dating" myself here, but.... August 1965. My stepdad Tom took me to see the Beatles at Candlestick Park in SF. I was 8 years old. The tickets cost $5.00 each and had each of the Beatles' faces on it. All the way to the stadium, I kept asking, "Are we there yet?!! Are we there yet?!!" I wore a red mini-dress. The Beatles arrived on the baseball field in an ambulance. When I saw Paul get out of the ambulance and wave to all of us, I started bawling my eyes out. All the girls were bawling. I had a major crush on him. Still do. :P

On another note, Monkey ran away. Anybody seen her?

Yeah, that and "It's Beginning To And Back Again" were a sharp turn toward the beginnings of techno for Wire. My faves are stilll Chairs Missing and 154. Punk surreal.

If people are calling something "art rock" I'm probably gonna love it.

Just got this in the mail and popped it in:
Curtis Coleman (burner with cancer) "For My Friends". It would be a shame to loose a voice that picks up where Cat Stevens left off. Good luck, Curtis, and thank you.
