What's fun in London?

Post by Kristy Kreme » Mon Jan 10, 2005 6:18 pm

Hi everyone!

I will be going to London in early March, does any one know of something fun to do that time of year. Is there any London burners?
I will be in a town called Millton Keynes.

Thanks! Kristy Kreme

Yes I can't wait!

I'll only be there for a week but I may fly to Irerland or a small island off of Spain after.

I've heard getting a knobber from the Queen can be quite memorable.

I've got some pretty specific stuff in Ireland that's a MUST SEE... I was there a couple of years ago for 2 full weeks...

wow wow wow!

London sounds fun, babe! If you're there over St. Patty's, you really SHOULD make a quick jaunt to ireland... I arrived there on the 17th... it's a fekkin' national holiday, everything is closed, and the pubs are full! A COMPLETE BLAST!

as far as london is concerned, I would head over to the 'regionals' thread, and find some euro burners... I know for a fact that they're there!

And, if there's traveling, I'm game! I wanna travel with you two cool-assed chicks!

Hey K, I spent a month in London two years back and finished that off with a quick side trip to Amsterdam (a must do) followed by 9 days on the playa. Whewww!!

So, London has EVERYTHING, and IS lots of fun. My suggestion is to get a book on London, do some research and let your interests guide you.

Oh, and btw, the nightlife there is off the fucking hook! There is a weekly, or is it monthly, magazine called "Time Out" (if I remember correctly) which lists any and all of the entertainment going on in the city. GET IT AND READ IT!

Have a great time!

Everything's fun in London. I love London. Sadly I haven't been there recently so anything I could recommend, other than the freakin' Tower and Stonehenge, would be far, far out of date.

I wanna goooooo ... Scotland and Ireland are on my "save up for" list. Comes from a mormon mom who did geneaology religiously. Then there's Copenhagen ...

Sigh.

Well the only fun thing in London was me...but alas it was only for a most excellent regional event before christmas organised by the Euroburners (http://euroburners.org/index.html ). If you fancy a jaunt to Scotland then I can show you a few off the beaten track places (Read pubs) or if you are going to Northern Ireland then I will get the skinny on whats good from my girlfriend who is from those parts. As for London will ask around.

Ever hopelessly helpful

London, much I love it. Would move there if it weren't for the detestable weather.

Were it me I would spend several days in the british museum. Would spend late afternoons in pubs. There is a great book called, I think, london by pub. I would spend some late nights at crazy dance parties. I would have to see if I could wiggle my way into a Chelsea or Arsenal match to be wowed by a collection of mind bending world class athletes. I would have to dine more than once at Veraswami, London's oldest Indian restaurant. Well, that's just a start and that's just London.

I would not seek out burner culture. What would then be the point of the travel? Sounds provincial to me, like going to Paris to seek out Burger King.

Stuart nailed it. THE FOOD!!! No, not traditional English food, YUK! The best Indian and Thai food I have ever had...

Oh yes, and speaking of pubs, go to the "Worlds End" pub in Camden Town (which is a ccool spot to visit). It is the biggest pub in London situated right on a very busy intersection and is loads of fun. Downstairs is a nightclub that has everything from techno to live punk rock, love that place!

tons in london

Post by psy-magpie » Tue Jan 11, 2005 11:44 am

hey Kirsty, my name is Emma and I live in Leeds in England. If you are gooint to London the choice is yours there is tons of stuff in London, it all depends what you what to do. I have never actually been out in London myself but I could easily find out the best spots to go. I know there is goint to be a huge psy-trance party in London on 29th Jan, but you wont be here then, d'oh. Just be aware milton keynes is about 50miles from London so make sure you have transport home. trains usually start at about 7am ish. Also without trying to be picky( bestest english accent)Ireland is actually of the east coast wales, britain. Anyway milton keynes hold big organised events at certain points of the year. These are usually happy hardcore.

If you look on psy-forum.co.uk they have a board up there that will tell you about organised parties or free parties (illegal he he)

any way if there is anything else you wanna know just asked

keep on raving

Emma

It really depends on what your definition of "fun" is.

There's a childs museum if you like 200 year old toys.

The Tower if weapons, jewelry and torture devises is your thing.

Roman Ruins. The Fire Monument (does it still blame the "Papists"?) The grave of Karl Marx is a personal favorite of my mother. Bookstores, theatre, sleaze, the Imperial War Museum (it used to be Bedlam), the Tate for modern art, Trafalger Square if you like pigeons, Grenwich if you're interested in the navy or astronomy (or are looking for a really nasty time--and yes, puns are the lowest form of humor). Ha, when I was an 8-year old nerd, I made my family go look at the Doomsday Book. Is it any wonder I ended up in govment service? If you're looking for nightlife, then Time Out is the standard. Costume museum, the V & A (yes, I always went with my family.) If you clarify your interests, perhaps we can be more helpful.

speaking of different sorts of fun, there are supposed to be 4 major protests in the UK this year. which means you'll have no trouble hitting a planning meeting, action, prison vigil, or trial.

for gooood reason. but i can't point it out because then i'll be called anti-semitic. not by you. by the people who call every critic of israel anti semitic, especially if they mention comparisons to nazi germany. or a self-hater.

where's that doctor?

to which refugee crap are you referring?

i think the protests coming up are largely G8 type things..... big summits in the UK....
